Syracuse, N.Y. – The defending NCAA Division II national champion Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team is scheduled to open its season on Sunday, February 20, as the team's schedule was released on Thursday afternoon.
The 15-game schedule will feature five home contests, eight true road games and a pair of neutral-site matchups, including 10 games against Northeast-10 Conference foes and five against non-conference opponents. The slate features six teams in the USA Lacrosse magazine preseason Top 20 rankings, including three top-six opponents to open the year.
"As always, the NE10 schedule is super competitive, arguably the best conference in DII Lacrosse," said 25th-year head coach
Dan Sheehan. "In DII men's lacrosse, in order to be the best, you have to beat the best. I'm certain our strength of schedule is second to none."
The Dolphins, who won their sixth national championship in 2021 after going 15-0 in the abbreviated campaign, kick off the season on Sunday, February 20 with a neutral-site contest against Wingate University at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Wingate finished the 2021 season 12-3 after falling to Lenoir-Rhyne in the NCAA semifinals and enters 2022 ranked third in the USA Lacrosse rankings.
The Dolphins close out February with another neutral-site matchup, taking on Mercyhurst University at the Pinnacle Athletic Complex's indoor facility in Victor, N.Y. on Saturday the 26th. The Lakers went 12-2 in 2021 and are sixth in the USA Lacrosse magazine rankings after being upended by the Dolphins in the NCAA semifinals.
The 'Phins open March with three road contests. They visit Mercy College on Saturday, March 5 to take on the fifth-ranked Mavericks, who earned the second seed in the NCAA North Region before being unable to participate in the tournament. The Dolphins head to Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester on Wednesday the 9th before wrapping up non-conference play at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida on Monday the 14th.
Le Moyne begins Northeast-10 Conference play on March 19 at Saint Anselm College, which was the top seed in the conference championship last year and is ranked 11th in the USA Lacrosse rankings.
The Dolphins play their first home game of the season on Saturday, March 26 against Southern New Hampshire University, which will be making its first trip to Syracuse since 2018. Just three days later, Pace University, which is 15th in the USA Lacrosse rankings, comes to Ted Grant Field looking to snap a 25-game losing streak to the Dolphins.
The Dolphins are back on the road to start April, traveling to Colchester, Vermont to take on Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 3. The following Saturday, the Dolphins host Assumption University. The 'Phins make the trek to Waltham, Massachusetts on Tuesday the 12th to face Bentley University for the 26th consecutive year, the program's longest active streak.
The Dolphins will celebrate "Senior Day" on Friday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. against American International College.
The Dolphins will close out their road schedule by visiting The College on Saint Rose on Wednesday the 20th and Franklin Pierce University on Saturday the 23rd.
The team's most-anticipated home game will come in the home finale when Adelphi University, slotted 12th in the USA Lacrosse rankings, comes to Ted Grant Field on Tuesday the 26th.
The Northeast-10 Conference Championship returns to a six-team field with all contests being hosted by the higher seeded squad. The first round is scheduled for April 30, while the semifinals take place on May 4 and the championship game is slated for May 7.
