BENTLEY CLAIMS 1-0 WIN OVER WOMEN'S SOCCER

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Bentley University women's soccer team scored the go-ahead goal in the 44th minute against the Le Moyne College Dolphins on Saturday afternoon to claim a 1-0 NE10 Conference victory on Ted Grant Field.

There was a heavy wind moving towards the Le Moyne goal in the first half, and the conditions gave the Falcons an advantage on corner kicks during the first 45 minutes.

On the lone goal of the game, Bentley's Brooke Jones hit a corner kick from the left flag high in the air towards the middle of the box. The wind pushed the ball towards the goal line, and the altered trajectory of the ball put Le Moyne goalkeeper Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) on her heels. Moreau did well to adjust her position, track backwards and catch the ball, but with a group of players right in front of her she lost her balance and was going to fall into the goal. Moreau did well to throw the ball down and keep it in play, but Bentley's Scarlett D'Amico was there to kick it past the goal line and put the Falcons up 1-0 just before halftime.

"It's a tough loss. We felt like we did enough today to come away with at least a draw, but credit to a good Bentley team who finished their chance at the end of the first half, which was the different maker. It was difficult giving up a goal just before halftime. Now it's time for a quick turnaround, and our preparation will begin for Tuesday's game at Assumption. We will watch the game tomorrow, fix the things that we have to fix, and with a quick turnaround recovery will be key. We will make sure that we are ready both physically and mentally for Tuesday's game," said Le Moyne Women's Soccer Interim Head Coach Jaro Zawislan after the game.

The Dolphins created some good chances during the first half. Avery Maxam (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) put a shot on goal from the top of the box in the 3rd minute of the game, but Bentley goalkeeper Claire Ewen was there to make the save.

Le Moyne started the second half strong as well and created one of their best chances of the game in the 49th minute when Payton Khadra (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) sent a dangerous ball into the box from the right side of the field.

Khadra's ball was sent to the back post, and played perfectly away from the defender, where only Le Moyne left midfielder Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminster, Mass./St. Bernard's) could get to it.

LeBlanc was able to volley the ball on the run, but her shot went wide of the left post.

With less than two minutes left in the game, the Dolphins were awarded a throw in from the left sideline, within their attacking third. The team's long-throw specialist, Katelyn Courcy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) threw the ball into the box, and the ball was pushed towards the right side of the penalty area in front of goal. Le Moyne attackers scrambled to get the loose ball, but a Bentley player was able to clear it away.

The Le Moyne College women's soccer team fell to 3-5-1 in NE10 play following the loss. The team will be in action next on Tuesday, October 18 when they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on Assumption University.
