SAINT ROSE OVERCOMES RALLY BY MEN’S BASKETBALL FOR 79-72 WIN

Syracuse, N.Y. – Shane O'Dell recorded a double-double to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 79-72 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday night at Ted Grant Court.

"I thought our guys showed a lot of resiliency, playing three games in five days is always tough," said head coach Nate Champion '14. "I thought that we kind of showed that fatigue a little bit at the end of the first half and after we made a big run in the second half, I thought we kind of died down again."

Redshirt freshman guard Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School) led the Dolphins in the loss with 16 points, including 10 in the second half, while adding six steals, six rebounds and five assists. The six steals are the most by a Dolphin since Nate Gause had six against Seton Hill on December 31, 2014. Junior forward Xavier Wilson (Spring Valley, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac/The Hotchkiss School/Central Connecticut State) registered his first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, while adding four blocks and a career high-tying three assists. Third-year sophomore guard Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) recorded a career-high 13 points, including 11 in the second half.

O'Dell registered 22 points, including 14 in the first half, and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season against the Dolphins after having 28 and 10 in Albany in November. Adam Anderson tallied 12 of his 16 points in the first half, while Tray Alexander netted 10 of his 15 points in the second half.

After Saint Rose jumped out to a 7-4 lead, the Dolphins responded with seven straight points. Constant made a pair of lay-ups around a three-pointer by Wilson.

The Golden Knights then put together a 16-2 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game with 9:56 to play in the half. After four players combined for the first nine points, O'Dell posted the last seven for a 25-15 lead.

Following back-and-forth action, redshirt freshman guard Christian Davis (Denver, Colo./Mullen/New Hampton School) and Washington scored in the paint to get the Dolphins within 29-25 with 6:21 to go.

The Golden Knights closed out the half with 13 of the last 17 points to take a 42-29 lead into halftime. Four players scored in the span, led by five points from Anderson.

After Saint Rose took its largest lead of the game at 45-31 with 18:49 left in the second half on a free throw by Cartier Bowman, the Dolphins rattled off 10 straight points and 24 of the next 30 points to take a 55-51 lead with 10:15 left. Constant and Washington led the charge with 10 and eight points, respectively, while senior guard Payton Hudson (Yonkers, N.Y./Our Saviour Lutheran/Iona/Independence C.C.), Wilson and senior forward Nicholas Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy/Frostburg St./Montgomery College) each had two points.

Saint Rose answered back with a 15-3 jaunt to regain control of the game. O'Dell, Alexander and Eric Fleming each had four points in the streak, while Josh McGettigan had three. Fleming's first dunk in a span of 35 seconds gave the Golden Knights the lead for good with 7:41 left.

After the teams traded baskets over a stretch of almost two minutes, the Dolphins mounted one last rally to get within 72-70 with 2:26 to play. Wilson recorded a conventional three-point play and then Washington buried a deep three-pointer from the right wing.

Bowman scored the next three points and Alexander made four foul shots around a basket by Davis to close out the game.

Le Moyne (9-10, 5-7 NE10), which was swept by a division opponent for the first time since the 2015-16 season (Southern Connecticut State, also the last year with at least seven conference losses), is back on the hardwood on Saturday at the University of New Haven at 3:30 p.m.
