Garden City, N.Y. – Ronnie Silva scored 19 points to lead Adelphi University to a 67-56 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
Junior forward
Xavier Wilson (Spring Valley, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac/The Hotchkiss School/Central Connecticut State) was the only Dolphin to score in double figures, finishing the contest with 19 points, including 13 in the first half, while grabbing a game-best 11 rebounds for his second career double-double and posting four steals.
Silva, the leading candidate for Player of the Year honors in the conference, tallied 10 of his team-best point total in the second half, despite not making a three-pointer in a game for the first time since January 11, 2020 – snapping a streak of 34 consecutive games with at least one made three-pointer. Aristotelis Sotiriou turned in 15 points, including eight in the first half, while Adonis Williams tallied 11 points.
After the teams went back and forth over the first 3:18 of the game, the Panthers scored 15 of the next 19 points to take a 22-10 lead with 11:02 left in the half. Williams ignited the run with the first four points and added another basket towards the end of the streak.
Le Moyne responded with a 14-4 jaunt to cut its deficit to just two with 4:29 until halftime. Wilson scored eight straight points in the span, which was capped by back-to-back baskets in the paint by redshirt freshman guard
Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School).
Adelphi answered back with the final 11 points of the half to take a 37-24 lead into the intermission. Silva scored five of the first seven points, while Chris Coalmon netted four points in the run and Sotiriou had two.
Following six points by each team over the first three and one-half minutes of the second half, the Dolphins scored six straight points to trim their deficit down to seven with 15:09 left in the game. Constant scored in the paint and then classmates
Isaiah Elmore (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Catholic) and
Christian Davis (Denver, Colo./Mullen/New Hampton School) followed with fast-break baskets in the paint off steals.
Adelphi countered with nine consecutive points over 1:46 to force a Le Moyne timeout with 12:57 remaining. Sotiriou scored in the paint, Silva made a pair of shots and then Jake Hlywiak drained a three-pointer from the right wing.
The Panthers eventually pushed their lead to 20 at 63-43 with 5:51 left, but the Dolphins answered with eight points in a row to get within 12 with 3:05 left. Third-year sophomore forward
Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Siena/Bryant), who returned to the lineup following a five-game absence, knocked down a three-pointer and then Wilson had a put-back lay-up and drained a three-pointer of his own.
The teams then traded points before third-year sophomore guard
Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) finished off the night's scoring with a three-pointer.
Le Moyne (9-12, 5-9 NE10), which fell in Garden City for the first time since the 2015-16 season, wraps up its three-game road trip on Thursday at American International College at 5:30 p.m.
