TOP-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE WINS HOME OPENER, 20-12, OVER ROBERTS WESLEYAN

Syracuse, N.Y. – Attackmen Devin Andrews (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy/Stony Brook) and Carter Collins (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake/Lindenwood) each recorded five points in the first half to lead the top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 20-12 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

"The MVP has to go to the grounds crew of Jim Foster and Matt Walrath for getting the field playable!" said head coach Dan Sheehan. "A solid first half (of the game) allowed us to get a bunch of guys in the game."

The Dolphins opened the game with a pair of goals in the first three minutes. Midfielder Ben McCreary (Cicero, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) started the scoring 90 seconds in with his seventh tally of the season. Andrews netted his first goal of the day another 90 seconds later off a pass from Collins.

Roberts Wesleyan cut its deficit in half at the 11:27 mark on Jordon Deats' 10th goal of the season.

Le Moyne answered with six straight goals over eight minutes to blow the game open. Senior midfielder Colin Sypek (Lake Worth, Fla./American Heritage School (Delray Beach)) started the run at the 10:36 mark off a pass from Andrews. Collins then netted his ninth goal of the year with 8:10 to go in the quarter. Andrews followed at the 5:33 mark with his fifth tally of the campaign. Redshirt senior midfielder Zach Pierce (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville/Onondaga C.C.) got into the scoring column with at the 4:31 mark with his sixth goal of the season. Midfielder Evan Kelly (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) posted his second goal of the year with 3:33 left off a pass from Collins, who followed with his 10th at the 2:35 off a dish from Andrews to end the run.

Reid Jackowski scored with 1:47 to go in the quarter off a pass from Connor Jones to get the Redhawks within 8-2.

The Dolphins scored twice in the final minute of the first quarter. Senior attackman Kevin Sheehan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) found the back of the net with 55 seconds left and then Collins completed his hat trick as time expired off a pass from senior midfielder Sam Lambert (Victor, N.Y./Victor).

Le Moyne scored the firs three goals of the second quarter to take its first double-digit lead. Andrews recorded his third goal of the day with 11:39 left after collecting a pass from Sheehan. Freshman attackman Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) tallied his first career goal with 6:32 left and junior midfielder Blake Van Epps (Albany, N.Y./Albany Academy/Manhattan) netted his first goal as a Dolphin 36 seconds later.

Roberts Wesleyan scored three of the game's next four goals. Following a faceoff violation penalty on the Dolphins, Michael Pierog netted his seventh goal of the season off a pass from Jackowski with 5:44 left. McCreary answered back 58 seconds later with his eighth goal of the campaign. Deats responded 37 seconds later to get the Redhawks back within 10. Jackowski registered his 11th goal of the year with 3:17 remaining off a pass from Nate Maloney.

Eisenmann completed the scoring in the half with 21 seconds left off a pass in transition from defenseman Nate Arnold (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon/Richmond).

The Dolphins netted the first two goals of the third quarter to take their largest lead of the game. Sophomore attackman Preston Taylor (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) scored his first goal of the season at the 13:54 mark off a pass from senior midfielder John Bergan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee). Senior attackman John Howes (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) scored with 12:15 left off a dish from Eisenmann for a 17-5 lead.

The Redhawks followed with the next three goals. Hunter Lemieux scored in an extra-man situation with 8:21 remaining. Jackowski posted his 12th goal of the campaign off a pass from Luke Delavak with 6:40 left. Pierog found the back of the net 36 seconds left to get the Redhawks within single digits.

Redshirt junior Connor Quimby (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) finished off the scoring in the quarter with his first tally of the season with 3:54 left off a feed from Eisenmann.

Deats scored the first goal of the fourth quarter just 51 seconds in, but junior midfielder Joel Firth (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) answered back 17 seconds later in a man-down situation with his first goal of the year.

Lemieux got the Redhawks into double digits with an extra-man goal with 13:19 left off a pass from Maloney. Dan Doviak followed at the 9:03 mark off a dish from Gavin Marsh. Lemieux tallied the final goal for the Redhawks in an extra-man situation with 4:17 left.

Freshman attackman Isaac Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) posted his first career goal with 2:20 remaining to end the game's scoring.

Graduate student goalkeeper Frank Delia (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Onondaga C.C.) tallied 11 saves (against six goals) over 36:39 to earn the victory. Aidan Sheehan made eight saves in the setback for the Redhawks.

Le Moyne (4-0), which played its first unranked opponent of the year, returns to action on Monday at 15th-ranked Florida Southern College at 7:00 p.m.
