SECOND-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE CRUISES TO 21-7 VICTORY AT SAINT ROSE

Albany, N.Y. – Seniors John Bergan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and Kevin Sheehan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) each recorded five points to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 21-7 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

With the victory, the Dolphins clinch a top-two seed in the NE10 Championships and a bye in the first round. 

The Dolphins scored nine goals in the opening quarter. Graduate student attackman Devin Andrews (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy/Stony Brook) started the scoring with his 15th goal of the season at the 13:44 mark off a pass from redshirt senior midfielder Zach Pierce (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville/Onondaga C.C.). Bergan scored his first goal of the day with 11:59 left after collecting a pass from Andrews. One minute later, senior midfielder Colin Sypek (Lake Worth, Fla./American Heritage School (Delray Beach)) netted his 16th goal of the year. Graduate student midfielder Evan Kelly (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) posted his 10th goal of the campaign with 6:31 remaining off a feed from Sheehan, who followed with his 16th goal of the year with 5:15 to go off a pass from Bergan. Just 35 seconds later, Sypek found the back of the net off a feed from Andrews. Another 55 seconds later, Pierce netted his 24th marker of the campaign. Freshman attackman Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) scored his first goal of the afternoon with 1:34 remaining off a feed from Pierce. Sheehan completed the scoring in the quarter with 26 seconds left after receiving a pass from Kelly.

The teams alternated goals in the second quarter. Sheehan put the Dolphins up by double digits at the 11:17 mark, while Cam Smith got the Golden Knights on the scoreboard with 10:22 remaining off a pass from Greg Walsh. Bergan made it a 10-goal game again with 7:26 to go off a dish from Andrews. John Loughlin answered with 4:06 left off a feed from Nathan Ham. Eisenmann completed the scoring in the half at the 3:15 mark with his 13th goal of the season.

Smith started the scoring in the third quarter with an extra-man goal 35 seconds into the period.

Le Moyne followed with the final six goals of the quarter. Graduate student attackman Carter Collins (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake/Lindenwood) started the run at the 9:31 mark off a feed from Kelly, who then scored with 7:05 left off a pass from Bergan. Collins scored the team's 15th goal of the game with 5:06 to go off a dish from Sheehan. Eisenmann followed with his third of the game with 3:14 remaining following a pass from Pierce. Bergan netted an unassisted goal with 2:40 left and Collins capped the quarter's scoring with an extra-man goal after receiving a feed from Sypek with 49 seconds left.

Saint Rose scored three of the first four goals in the fourth quarter. Anthony Barone scored the first goal of the period at the 13:17 mark. Junior Griffin Ackley (Parkton, Md./Calvert Hall) answered 56 seconds later off a pass from Eisenmann. Dominic Meola netted his second goal of the year with 12:06 remaining and then Smith scored off a feed from Eddie Baker with 10:20 left.

The Dolphins followed with their next two goals. Off a feed from sophomore midfielder Kyle Caves (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), redshirt junior midfielder Connor Quimby (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) scored his second goal of the year with 6:32 left. Freshman Brian Nephew (Irving, N.Y./St. Joseph Collegiate) registered his first career goal with 4:28 remaining to wrap up Le Moyne's scoring.

Barone finished off the game's scoring with two minutes remaining.

Graduate student goalkeeper Frank Delia (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Onondaga C.C.) registered seven saves (against three goals) over 45 minutes between the pipes to earn the victory. Ryan Fleming turned away 10 shots (against 17 goals) over 43:09.

Le Moyne (12-1, 8-0 NE10), which is ranked first in the initial NCAA North Region rankings, completes its road schedule on Saturday at Franklin Pierce University at 12:00 p.m.
