Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened the season with a 6-1 victory over Daemen University on Saturday afternoon at the Skytop Tennis Courts.

Jeff Lonczak '03. "It's always fun having them playing simultaneously. Special congrats to all the new Dolphins on getting their first victories in their Dolphin attire. The men will be preparing for our regional while the women will be getting ready for tomorrow's test against Niagara."
The Dolphins opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the first position, sophomore
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and senior
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) registered a 6-4 win over Frida Rubio and Yinett Del Leon. Freshman
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and junior
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) teamed at the second spot for a 6-1 victory over Kitsa Scime and Carly Armitage. Freshmen
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) registered a 6-0 win in their collegiate debuts at the third position over Mackenzie Schayes and Ailish McDevitt.
Le Moyne captured five of the six matches in the singles competition. At the top spot, Barona downed Rubio, 6-1, 6-0. After dropping the first set, Simeonova came back at the third position to defeat Del Leon, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 6-4, in her first collegiate match. Casares tallied consecutive scores of 6-1 to top Armitage at the fourth spot. Pepper collected a 6-2, 6-1 win at the fifth position over Schayes, while sophomore
Brooke Tutor (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at the sixth spot against McDevitt in her first match as a Dolphin. Daemen picked up its point at the second position as Scime rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory over Alvarez.
Le Moyne (1-0) is back on the courts on Sunday against Niagara University at 12:00 p.m.
