Manchester, N.H. – Miles Tention registered 19 points to lead Saint Anselm College to a 77-65 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
First-year graduate student guard
Isaiah Salter (Charlotte, N.C./Central Cabarrus/American International/Adelphi) led the Dolphins with a season-high 21 points, including 14 in the second half, to go along with three assists and three rebounds. Redshirt sophomore forward
Isaiah Elmore (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Catholic) recorded 10 of his 12 points in the first half, while adding six rebounds.
Tention posted 10 of his team-high point total in the second half, while dishing out four assists. Tyler Arbuckle registered 14 of his 17 points in the opening half. Owen McGlashan turned in a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while adding two steals and a block. Keith Robinson finished with 13 points, including eight in the second half, and seven rebounds.
After the teams traded points over the opening four and one-half minutes, the Dolphins used a 10-3 run to take a 16-10 lead with 12:48 to go in the first half. Salter made a three-pointer, Elmore had back-to-back baskets in the paint and then fourth-year junior forward
Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Siena/Bryant) drilled a three-pointer.
The Hawks answered with an 8-2 spurt to knot the score at 18 with 9:42 remaining as Robinson and McGlashan made three-pointers around a jumper by Arbuckle.
Le Moyne countered with six straight points and nine of the next 11 to take its largest lead of the game. Fourth-year junior guard
Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) and redshirt sophomore guard
Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School) drained three-pointers to force a Saint Anselm timeout and then senior forward
Xavier Wilson (Spring Valley, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac/The Hotchkiss School/Central Connecticut State) had a conventional three-point play for a 27-20 advantage with 7:55 left in the stanza.
Saint Anselm rattled off the next 10 points en route to closing out the half with a 20-8 run. Arbuckle scored the first four points and then Tention and Matt Relihan knocked down three-pointers to put the Hawks in front. Tention added two more three-pointers around a lay-up by Jadon Archer before Robinson closed out the half's scoring with a jumper to give Saint Anselm a 40-35 lead.
After the Dolphins scored seven of the first 12 points of the second half to cut their deficit to three, Saint Anselm ran off 16 of the next 18 points to take a game-high 17-point lead. McGlashan and Matt Becker drained three-pointers around a jumper by Arbuckle before Robinson scored eight points over 3:58 for a 61-44 lead with 8:39 to play.
Following five points from each team over the next two and one-half minutes, during which time Le Moyne snapped a scoreless drought of six and one-half minutes, the Dolphins scored 10 straight points and 12 of the next 13 to cut their deficit to six with 2:51 to play. Nate McClure (Houston, Texas/Concordia Lutheran/Texas State/State Fair C.C./IUPUI) made a lay-up and then Salter knocked down a pair of jumpers to make it a 67-61 game.
The Hawks went 10-of-12 from the foul line over the final 2:22 to put the game away.
Le Moyne (9-8, 6-3 NE10), which played the Hawks for the 50th time (19-31), returns home to face Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
