Alfred, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's and men's swimming and diving teams opened 2023 with a sweep of Alfred University on Tuesday afternoon at McLane Natatorium. The women cruised to a 169-50 victory, while the men won the final relay to edge the Saxons, 128-109.

Genevieve Kikukawa (Kalaupapa, Hawaii/University Laboratory School), sophomore
Ella Kaback (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem), freshman
Brooke Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) and senior
Caitlyn Longway (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) won the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:55.04.
Sophomore
Hannah Kellogg (Cazenovia, N.Y./Chittenango) collected the first individual win of the afternoon with a time of 11:19.33 in the 1000-yard freestyle. She completed the sweep of the distance events with a time of 5:34.76 in the 500-yard freestyle to win by over 12 seconds.
Sophomore
Brenna Horan (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point/SUNY Geneseo) topped the field in the 200-yard freestyle by over three seconds with a time of 2:04.56.
Longway registered a time of 25.55 seconds to win the 50-yard freestyle.
Sommo edged Horan in the 200-yard IM by just one one-hundredth of a second to place first in 2:22.96.
Freshman
Riley Brennen (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) swept the two diving events. She won the one-meter event with 169.27 points. She then tallied 157.05 points to win the three-meter event.
Redshirt sophomore
MaryLauren Burke (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) claimed the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 58.38 seconds.
Kikukawa was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke by over eight seconds by touching the wall in 1:03.42.
Kaback picked up the win in the 100-yard breaststroke by over five seconds with a mark of 1:12.91.
Kikukawa, redshirt sophomore
Lily Buchholz (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles), Longway and Burke closed out the meet by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:43.50.
Senior
Joseph Malone (Merrick, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham/SUNY Old Westbury) earned the men's team's first win, registering a mark of 10:54.58 to place first in the 1000-yard freestyle. He topped the field in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.88 to complete the sweep of the distance events.
Sophomore
Belal Aly (Syracuse, N.Y./PSAL at Fowler) touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle by over three seconds with a mark of 1:48.32. He then won the 100-yard freestyle by just under one second with a time of 49.06 seconds.
Sophomore
Dominic Fratto (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) captured the 50-yard freestyle by 0.23 seconds with a time of 22.71 seconds. He collected his second win of the day with a time of 55.65 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke.
Sophomore
Justin Byrne (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) was victorious in both diving events. He registered 227.32 points to win off the one-meter board and claimed the three-meter diving event with 211.35 points.
The quartet of freshmen
Xavier Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and
Keegan Stafford (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Aly and Fratto won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:29.62 to clinch the meet for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins are back in action at home on Friday against Nazareth College at 12:00 p.m.
