11TH-RANKED BENTLEY DEFEATS MEN’S BASKETBALL, 86-61

Syracuse, N.Y. – Zach Laput tallied 28 points to lead 11th-ranked Bentley University to an 86-61 win over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.

Freshman guard Trent Mosquera (Brookline, Mass./Belmont Hill School) led three Dolphins in double figures with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point range. First-year graduate student guard Isaiah Salter (Charlotte, N.C./Central Cabarrus/American International/Adelphi) and Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Siena/Bryant) each tallied 10 points and three rebounds.

Laput, the leading scorer in the conference by over 2.5 points per game (20.6), registered 16 of his points in the first half and 12 in the second half, while adding nine rebounds. Mason Webb finished with 15 points, including 13 in the first half. Matt Leritz turned in 14 points, including nine in the second half, seven rebounds and four assists. Aaron Latham posted 11 points and four assists. Brian Wright-Kinsey pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, including nine in the second half. The victory marked the 600th in the career of 32nd-year head coach Jay Lawson.

After Sutherland got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with a three-pointer, the Falcons scored eight straight points to take control of the game and then used a 12-0 run to push their lead to 24-7 with 12:09 remaining in the half. Webb tallied eight of the points in the 12-0 span on a pair of three-pointers and a put-back lay-up.

Following four points from the Dolphins, the Falcons used a 9-1 spurt to take their largest lead of the half at 35-12 with 6:30 left. Laput knocked down a three-pointer and jumper to lead the run. The Falcons held a 35-12 lead for the second straight game after posting the same score in a 60-59 loss to New Haven on Wednesday.

Salter answered with back-to-back three-pointers and Sutherland followed with a put-back lay-up to get the Dolphins within 35-20 with 4:34 to go.

Bentley pushed its lead back to 20 on a pair of occasions over the next two years before the Dolphins got within 45-27 at the intermission.

After alternating 5-0 spurts to start the second half, Bentley scored eight straight points as Laput had a conventional three-point play and then Leritz scored five consecutive points.

Le Moyne got back-to-back baskets from sophomore guard Zy'Ever Wingfield (Richmond, Va./Henrico/Fork Union Military Academy), but Bentley rattled off 21 of the next 29 points to take its largest lead of the game at 79-44 with 10:07 to go. Laput scored seven of the points in the span as five others combined for 15 points, while Mosquera hit a pair of three-pointers for the Dolphins in the stretch.

Mosquera hit another three-pointer and redshirt sophomore guard Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School) followed with a lay-up to get the Dolphins within 30 with 8:20 left.

After the teams traded points over the next seven points, Mosquera hit a three-pointer with 1:24 left and Constant made two foul shots with 1:09 to go to end the game's scoring.

Le Moyne (9-11, 6-6 NE10), which has dropped four straight and five of its last six games, is back in action on Tuesday at Pace University at 7:30 p.m.
