WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HOSTS ADELPHI ON WEDNESDAY

1/31/2023 7:14:00 PM

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's basketball team (15-5, 10-4 NE10) will host the Adelphi University Panthers (9-10, 6-8 NE10) on Wednesday, February 1, for a Northeast-10 Conference game at 5:30 p.m. in the first half of a basketball doubleheader on Ted Grant Court. The Le Moyne and Adelphi men's teams will take the court afterwards for an NE10 tilt scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

It will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, as Le Moyne suffered a 70-64 road defeat against Adelphi in November.

The Le Moyne women have won five games in a row. They have triumphed in 10 of their last 11 contests, and most recently they are coming off a 63-58 win at Saint Rose on Saturday.

Wednesday's matchup will be the second time this season that the Dolphins have had the opportunity to avenge a loss from earlier in the campaign.

Le Moyne lost to Pace at home by a score of 58-54 on January 7, but later in the month the Dolphins traveled to Pleasantville and claimed a 53-43 win over the Setters.

Freshman guard Kaia Goode (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney), the reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week, led Le Moyne in scoring during both of their wins last week. She scored a season-high 17 points during the win at Pace, then followed that up with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals against the Golden Knights. With under a minute left in the fourth quarter and the score tied 58-58 on Saturday, Goode drove to the basket and scored the go-ahead layup for Le Moyne.

The Dolphins are currently in third place in the Northeast-10 Conference Standings behind Assumption University (18-2, 11-2 NE10) and Southern New Hampshire University (14-4, 10-3 NE10). The Adelphi Panthers are tied for eighth place alongside Saint Rose with a 6-8 conference record.

Le Moyne redshirt-sophomore forward Haedyn Roberts (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent) is fourth in the conference in free-throw percentage, shooting 87.8% from the line on 3.7 attempts per game.

Freshman guard Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) is one of just five players in the NE10 currently making at least 2.0 three-point field goals per game on average. Redshirt-freshman guard Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) is ninth in the conference with 1.8 made threes per contest.

Linnin knocked down four three pointers on Saturday and finished with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals in 34 minutes played against the Golden Knights.

With 47 steals through 20 games in her freshman campaign, Kaia Goode leads the entire NE10 in total steals and steals per game.

Roberts and senior guard Lytoya Baker (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) lead Le Moyne in scoring with 12.6 and 12.5 points per game, respectively.

Baker still leads the NE10 in rebounding with 11.6 boards per game. The next highest rebounding average in the conference belongs to SNHU's Jess Knight, who is pulling down 10.3 boards per contest. Baker, Knight and New Haven's Aurora Deshaies are the only three players in the Northeast-10 Conference currently averaging a double-double.

Baker and Lusher are tied for sixth in the NE10 with 1.9 steals per game each. Lusher is also tied for sixth in the conference in blocks with 0.9 rejections per contest, and she has the ninth-highest assists average in the league with a team-high 3.4 helpers per contest

Adelphi and Le Moyne are two of the highest scoring teams in the NE10 this season. During league games, Adelphi leads the NE10 with 64.9 points per game, while Le Moyne is third in the league with 63.6 points per conference battle. The Panthers are also allowing a league-worst 67.9 points during conference games, while Le Moyne's defense is holding teams to 56.6 points on average during NE10 contests.

Adelphi graduate guard Ty'zhea Hawkins leads the NE10 in scoring with 18.4 points per game. She also leads the Panthers in assists (2.9 per game) and steals (1.4 per game).

Senior forward Jenna Jordan, the reigning NE10 Player of the Week, averages 14.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game for Adelphi.

During Le Moyne's loss at Adelphi earlier this season, Hawkins poured in a game-high 24 points and graduate guard Lauren Hammersley went 6-9 from three-point range and finished with 21 points. The Dolphins committed 20 turnovers during the November 22 defeat, which is tied for the most turnovers that they have recorded during a conference game so far this season.

The Panthers suffered a 67-58 loss to New Haven on January 24, but bounced back with an 80-75 victory over Saint Anselm on Saturday. Jordan tallied 30 points and 11 rebounds during the win, while Hawkins added 22 points and five rebounds.

Le Moyne won both meetings between the two sides during the 2021-22 campaign, but Adelphi won both matchups during the 2019-20 season. Le Moyne and Adelphi split their two meetings during the 2018-19 season.
