Syracuse, N.Y. – Five Dolphins scored in double figures as the Le Moyne College men's basketball team opened its home schedule with a 105-46 victory over SUNY Canton on Monday night at Ted Grant Court.
Graduate student guard
Kaiyem Cleary (Manchester, England/Redemption Christian Academy (NY)/Florida Southern/Florida Southwestern/Ball State) led the Dolphins with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, while adding seven rebounds and two steals in just 16 minutes of action. Graduate student guard
Nate McClure (Houston, Texas/Concordia Lutheran/Texas State/State Fair C.C./IUPUI) contributed 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. Senior guard
Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) tallied 13 points, while freshman guard
AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists and redshirt freshman forward
Nate Fouts (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles/Kimball Union Academy) turned in 11 points, three assists and a pair of blocks in his collegiate debut. The Dolphins finished the contest 32-of-37 on two-point field goals, including 15-of-16 in the first half.
Terrence Fields, Eli Larson and Moe Biao each had eight points to lead the Kangaroos.
Following back-and-forth action over the opening three minutes of the game led to an 8-7 Le Moyne lead, the Dolphins rattled off 16 of the next 18 points. McClure had a pair of three-pointers in the stretch, while Jones Jr. had a three-pointer and a fast-break dunk.
After back-to-back baskets by the Kangaroos, Le Moyne ran off 20 of the next 22 points over the ensuing five minutes for a 47-15 lead. Seven Dolphins scored in the span, led by five points from Fouts.
Following a three-pointer by Field with 2:49 left to get Canton within 29 for the final time, the Dolphins closed out the half with 11 of the last 14 points to go into intermission leading 60-23. Cleary scored the final five points in a span of 15 seconds, including a three-pointer from just inside half court at the buzzer.
After Canton scored seven of the opening 12 points of the second half over the first five and three-quarters minutes, Le Moyne scored 10 straight points over the next 2:15. Four Dolphins scored in the streak with the final four points coming from Fouts on baskets in the paint.
The Kangaroos scored seven of the next 11 points to cut their deficit to 79-37 with 9:30 remaining.
Le Moyne responded with 20 of the next 24 points over the ensuing six minutes. Cleary (7) and McClure (5) combined for the first 12 points and then Dancler scored four points around baskets in the paint by Fouts and redshirt freshman guard
Kaelin Thomas (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic), who tallied his first career points.
Biao drained a three-pointer with 3:17 left for Canton's final basket. Dancler then buried a three-pointer of this own, a free throw and a lay-up to close out the game's scoring.
Le Moyne (1-2) returns to action on Friday at the University of San Diego at 7:00 p.m. PT/10:00 p.m. ET.
