Ocypher Owens (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep/Indian River State) of the men's basketball team has been selected as the Le Moyne College Athlete of the Week, presented by King + King Architects, as announced by the department on Tuesday evening.
Owens collects the recognition after averaging 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals over the team's two games last week.
He opened the week by registering a career-high 26 points, including 17 in the second half, while pulling down five rebounds and dishing out three assists in a 92-72 victory over Houghton on Monday. He connected on a career high-tying 10 shots, including a pair of three-pointers.
He then tallied 13 points, eight of which came in the first half, to go with six rebounds and three assists in a 72-55 setback at Penn State on Thursday.
Through 13 games, including six starts, he is averaging 10.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. He leads the team in blocks and field goal percentage (.495), while he ranks tied for second in rebounds and is third in scoring and three-point field goal percentage (.414).
Le Moyne (5-8) closes out its non-conference schedule on Saturday at Fairfield University at 2:00 p.m.
