SECOND-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE ROLLS TO 16-4 VICTORY OVER CATAWBA

Box Score Baltimore, Md. – Junior attackman Seth Benedict (Stanley, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) scored a career-high four goals to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 16-4 victory over Catawba College on Sunday at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University.


Due to the game being played at a neutral site, complete statistics are currently not available and will be published on Monday afternoon.

The Dolphins jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter of play. Sophomore attackman Isaac Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) started the scoring after taking a pass from redshirt sophomore midfielder Ethan Loun (West Linn, Ore./West Linn). Loun also picked up the assist on Le Moyne's second goal after sending a feed to junior midfielder Kyle Caves (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), who then also scored the team's third goal. Graduate student midfielder Sam Lambert (Victor, N.Y./Victor) netted the team's fourth goal and then assisted on the fifth, which was scored by Benedict, who then also scored the sixth.


Le Moyne scored three times in the second quarter, while yielding one goal, to extend its lead to 9-1 at halftime. Caves started the team's scoring in the period after taking a pass from Lambert. Benedict followed with his third of the day off a feed from senior midfielder Joel Firth (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse). Frechette, whose brother Nate '13 also scored a pair of goals against the Indians in the last meeting between the programs in 2010, ended the quarter's scoring after collecting a dish from junior attackman Joey Pezzimenti (Victor, N.Y./Victor/UAlbany).

The Dolphins found the back of the net four times in the third quarter to take a 13-1 lead after 45 minutes of action. Junior attackman Preston Taylor (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) started the scoring with his first goal of the season after taking a feed from Lambert. Benedict then found the back of the net for the fourth time after collecting a pass from Pezzimenti. Frechette recorded the assist on the final two goals of the quarter, with the first being scored by Taylor and the second coming from sophomore midfielder Nick Louise (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee), who scored his second career goal.

The teams split the fourth quarter's six goals as Le Moyne finished out the victory. Senior midfielder Blake Van Epps (Albany, N.Y./Albany Academy/Manhattan) scored Le Moyne's first two goals of the period with Taylor assisting on the first and sophomore attackman Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) dishing the pass on the second. Freshman attackman Alec Constable (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) closed out the team's scoring with his first career tally.

Le Moyne (2-0), which beat Catawba, 21-7, in the 2010 matchup, is back in action on Sunday against seventh-ranked University of Indianapolis at 12:30 p.m. at Rocky River High School in Rocky River, Ohio.
