WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CLAIMS 72-44 WIN OVER FRANKLIN PIERCE DURING WINTER 'PHINS PHRENZY

Syracuse, N.Y. – On the day of the Winter 'Phins Phrenzy, the Le Moyne College women's basketball team (17-5, 12-4 NE10) claimed their seventh consecutive conference victory on Saturday afternoon by defeating the Franklin Pierce University Ravens (7-15, 3-12 NE10) on Ted Grant Court by a score of 72-44. Le Moyne's 28-point win over FPU is their largest margin of victory so far this season.

The Dolphins have now won 12 of their last 13 games, and 10 of those contests were won by double digits.

Freshman guard Kaia Goode (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) delivered one of her best performances of the season on Saturday, tallying a season-high and game-high 20 points, a season-high six rebounds, a season-high and game-high six assists, plus a game-high four steals in a game-high 34 minutes played.

Goode has now scored in double figures in 15 different Le Moyne contests so far during her freshman campaign.

Freshman guard Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) shot 4-8 from three-point land and finished the NE10 win with 12 points and six rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

Redshirt-freshman guard Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) tallied 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals during the conference battle, while redshirt-sophomore forward Haedyn Roberts (Holland, N.Y./Holland Patent) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go along with eight points, two assists, a game-high two blocks and a steal.

Freshman guard Michelina Lombardi (Wynantskill, N.Y./Averill Park) scored a season-high eight points in 21 minutes played off the bench.

Freshman forward Tamiya Turner (Howell, N.J./Howell) set season-highs in points (6), field goals made (3) and rebounds (4) against the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce junior forward Ines Gimenez Monserrat scored a team-best 14 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in 32 minutes played during the setback. Junior guard Anna Badosa Soler and freshman guard Kenzie Sirowich each finished with 10 points for the Ravens.

The Dolphins shot 49.1% from the field (28-57 FG) on Saturday, compared to 32.1% (17-53 FG) for the visiting Ravens.

Franklin Pierce became just the sixth team this season to hold the Dolphins to under 10 offensive rebounds, but the Ravens committed 15 turnovers – Le Moyne recorded 11 steals on Saturday – and Le Moyne scored 19 points off of those turnovers.

Le Moyne's defense has submitted some dominant performances as of late. The Dolphins held Bentley to 38 points on January 21, which was the fewest number of points scored by the Falcons this year as well as the fewest number of points allowed by Le Moyne during a single game this season. Then Le Moyne held Pace to 43 points the following game, which is the second fewest number of points allowed by Le Moyne this season, and on Saturday they held FPU to 44 points, which is now tied for the third fewest amount of points that the Dolphins have conceded during a game this season.

Le Moyne shot 9-15 from the field, including 4-7 from three-point range, during the first quarter and jumped out to a 26-13 lead after 10 minutes played.

Goode made three of Le Moyne's four first-quarter threes and had 11 points at the end of the opening period.

Roberts was active for Le Moyne during the first 10 minutes as well, tallying six points, four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in the first frame.

The Ravens held a 6-4 advantage with 8:21 left in the first quarter, then Le Moyne went on a 17-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 21-9 lead.

Franklin Pierce trimmed their deficit to single digits (30-22) with 3:28 left in the first half, then Lusher caught the ball in the left corner, drove baseline and hit a floater over an FPU help defender to once again make it a 10-point game. Linnin hit a three pointer from the left wing with just under two minutes left in the second, then Lusher came up with a steal on defense, pushed the ball up the left side of the floor, and finished a left-handed running layup over a retreating defender to cap a quick 7-0 Le Moyne run and put the 'Phins up 37-22.

Badosa Soler made a free throw and a jumper during the final minute of the first half to trim Franklin Pierce's deficit to 37-25 at halftime.

Gimenez Monserrat scored eight of her points during the third period on two threes and two free throws, but Le Moyne got balanced scoring from six different players during the penultimate quarter to establish a 21-point lead going into the fourth.

Badosa Soler hit a three pointer 35 seconds into the second half to make it 38-27 in favor of the Dolphins.

Baker grabbed a defensive rebound at the 8:43 mark, then pushed the ball in transition and sent a pass ahead to Goode on the left wing. Goode bounced out to the left corner then hesitated, drove towards the baseline and finished a reverse scoop layup off the right side of the backboard to extend Le Moyne's lead back out to double digits.

With 4:20 left in the third quarter, Lusher drove towards the right side of the paint and drew two FPU defenders. Lusher kicked the ball out to a wide-open Lexi Gruss on the right wing, which caused a Franklin Pierce perimeter defender to run at Gruss.

Gruss quickly threw an extra pass to Linnin on the left wing, and the rookie knocked home the open triple. Le Moyne got a stop during the subsequent Franklin Pierce possession, and Goode pushed the ball in transition. Just before she approached the three-point line, Goode threw a pass to Gruss near the left corner, and Gruss drained the contested three pointer to extend Le Moyne's lead to 47-30.

Lusher and Linnin hit back-to-back three-point field goals later in the quarter to give the 'Phins a 20-point lead.

Lombardi scored an and-one layup and a three-point field goal during the fourth quarter to help the 'Phins cruise to the finish line.

Le Moyne's win on Saturday sets up a massive NE10 tilt on Tuesday in Syracuse between the Dolphins and the Assumption University Greyhounds (19-3, 12-3).

The Greyhounds are currently in first place in the NE10 Conference Standings, but the 'Phins can overtake the top spot in the standings by beating Assumption at home on Tuesday.

The two sides met in Worcester earlier this season, and Assumption claimed a 69-56 win over the Dolphins.
