SECOND-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE REGISTERS 15-13 VICTORY OVER SEVENTH-RANKED INDIANAPOLIS

Rocky River, Ohio – Junior attackman Joey Pezzimenti (Victor, N.Y./Victor/UAlbany) scored a career-high six goals to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 15-13 victory over seventh-ranked University of Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon at Rocky River High School.

With the victory, 26th-year head coach Dan Sheehan tied David Urick, who coached for 34 years at Hobart (1979-89) and Georgetown (1990-2012), for 12th on the NCAA's ranking of career victories with 352.

Le Moyne jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the opening 10 and one-half minutes. Pezzimenti started the outburst by finishing off a pass in an extra-man situation from junior midfielder Kyle Caves (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) at the 11:51 mark. Following a save by graduate student goalkeeper Matt Vavonese (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Canisius), fifth-year midfielder Sam Lambert (Victor, N.Y./Victor) netted his second goal of the campaign with 9:36 remaining. After another penalty on the Greyhounds, redshirt sophomore midfielder Ethan Loun (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) tallied his second goal of the season with 6:49 left after collecting a pass from senior midfielder Griffin Ackley (Parkton, Md./Calvert Hall). Just 33 seconds later, Pezzimenti deposited a pass from Lambert into the net to force a UIndy timeout. Only 20 seconds later, sophomore attackman Isaac Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) posted his fourth goal of the season off another dish from Lambert. Junior swingman Seth Benedict (Stanley, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) capped the stretch with his fifth goal of the year with 4:40 to go in the opening quarter.

The Greyhounds took advantage of a Le Moyne penalty to get on the scoreboard. Off a pass from Wyatt Auyer, Ben Foster tallied his 12th goal of the season with 3:21 left.

Loun finished off the scoring in the quarter with 2:19 remaining off a feed from graduate student attackman Kevin Sheehan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee).

Le Moyne extended its lead to 8-1 with the first goal of the second quarter as Pezzimenti scored 47 seconds into the period.

Following Foster's second goal of the day with 11:36 left, Lambert put the Dolphins up by seven again 63 seconds later off a pass from Loun.

The Greyhounds responded with four straight goals to cut their deficit to 9-6. Owain Braddock started the run with his fourth goal of the year with 8:46 left. Jake Allen followed 45 seconds later with his first goal of the season after scooping up a loose ball on the crease. Nick Randgaard then netted his 10th of the campaign with 6:51 until halftime. Drew Billig capped the streak with his 12th goal of the year with 4:29 left to force a Le Moyne timeout.

After two and one-half minutes of scoreless play, Pezzimenti recorded his fourth goal of the day with 1:58 left off a dish from Benedict to give the Dolphins a 10-6 lead at halftime.

Le Moyne tallied the first two goals of the third quarter. Pezzimenti scored from the crease at the 11:51 mark off a pass in transition from Lambert. Sheehan tallied his first goal of the campaign from 10 yards out just before the possession clock expired with 10:15 left after collecting a loose ball.

Auyer got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard in the quarter at the 7:49 mark after taking a pass from Randgaard in an extra-man opportunity.

The Dolphins closed out the quarter with the final two goals to take their third seven-goal lead of the game. Frechette registered his fifth goal of the season with 3:56 remaining after receiving a pass from Lambert. Sheehan then scored with 2:08 to go off a dish from Loun.

The Greyhounds used a pair of 3-0 runs in the fourth quarter to get back into the game, but ran out of time to complete their comeback. Foster started the first run just 55 seconds into the quarter. Just 41 seconds later, he scored again after taking a feed from Billig. After neither team scored over the next five possessions, Billig posted his 13th goal of the year with 7:22 to play.

Pezzimenti completed Le Moyne's scoring with 5:11 left to complete his double hat trick. He is the first Dolphin to score six goals since Matt Hutchings against Lenoir-Rhyne in the national championship game on May 30, 2021 and the first in a regular-season game since Sheehan on March 4, 2020 against Lake Erie.

Billig started UIndy's second 3-0 run with an unassisted tally with 4:35 to play. Two possessions later, Foster netted his fifth goal of the day with 2:44 left. Following turnover by the Dolphins on a clear attempt, Triston Schaffer scored in transition off a pass from Kyle Basch with 18 seconds left. The Greyhounds won the ensuing faceoff, but turned the ball over before putting a shot on target.

Vavonese finished the contest with 13 saves, including six in the second quarter, to earn the victory between the pipes. KC Carlson suffered the loss for the Greyhounds and made six saves, just as he did last year in taking the loss as Wingate's goalkeeper in Le Moyne's 15-11 win on February 20.

Le Moyne (3-0), which faced the Greyhounds for the first time, completes its non-conference schedule on Wednesday at Roberts Wesleyan University at 4:00 p.m.
