Newark, Delaware – After earning the program's 20
th NCAA Championship berth, the Le Moyne College baseball team will travel to the University of Delaware on Wednesday for the four-team double-elimination East Regional #2 to be played from Thursday to Sunday at UD's Bob Hannah Stadium.
Le Moyne, who earned the no. 7 seed in the NCAA East Region in 2022, earned the no. 3 seed for the 2023 tournament and will take on the East Coast Conference champion, no. 6-seeded Queens College (NY) in game one of the regional on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
No. 2-seeded Goldey-Beacom College, the host team for East Regional #2, will take on the no. 7 seed Felician University in the nightcap on Thursday.
The two losing teams will play an elimination contest on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
The other half of the East Region is top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University (37-11), fourth-seeded Franklin Pierce University (34-17), along with the Northeast-10 Conference Champion and fifth-seeded Pace University (33-19).
The East Region #2 bracket will consist of two games on Thursday, two games on Friday, two games on Saturday and an "if necessary" game on Sunday. East Region #1 will feature two games on Thursday, two games on Friday and an "if necessary" game on Saturday.
The winner of East #1 will square off with the winner of East #2 in a best-of-three super regional on May 26 and 27 at the site of the higher seeded team.
The champion of each of the eight super regionals will advance to the eight-team, double-elimination championship finals to be held June 3-10 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
Le Moyne played four of the other six East Region participants during the regular season.
The Dolphins met the Goldey-Beacom Lightning for their season-opening doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in February. Goldey-Beacom won both games by scores of 4-3 and 5-1.
Le Moyne met Franklin Pierce for a four-game non-conference series in Syracuse at the beginning of April, and the Dolphins scored a combined 33 runs during the series to sweep the Ravens. The two sides then met for the first game of NE10 Championship Weekend on May 11, and the 'Phins came up with an 8-0 win behind a strong outing from senior right-hander
Sam DiGeorge (Canastota, Canastota), but FPU got revenge the next day by beating Le Moyne 12-7 to advance to the NE10 title game.
Le Moyne traveled to Pace for a Northeast-10 Southwest Division series on April 21 and 22. The Dolphins held the Setters to just seven runs during the 32 combined innings to claim a sweep and improve their winning streak at the time to eight games.
Le Moyne and Pace then met in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championship, and the Setters earned an 8-2 win to advance to the title series, where they eventually beat Franklin Pierce in a winner-take-all battle for the NE10 crown.
The Dolphins played a four-game non-conference series at Felician in March. Le Moyne took three of four games from the Golden Falcons, and all four contests were decided by two runs.
Graduate first baseman
Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/UMass Lowell) leads the Dolphins in runs batted in (49) and hits (59) this season to go along with 37 runs, 16 doubles, eight home runs, 28 walks, and a .321/.419/.538 slash line, while sophomore right fielder
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) leads the team in runs scored (44) and home runs (11). During conference play, Roden led all Southwest Division hitters with 22 NE10 RBIs.
Graduate second baseman
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)) has tallied 40 runs, 56 hits, including 16 doubles and four home runs, 21 RBI, 31 walks drawn and a team-best 20 stolen bases through 50 starts. The other half of Le Moyne's middle infield, fifth-year shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) has contributed 36 runs, 46 hits (including 10 doubles and nine home runs), 39 runs batted in and 19 walks in 49 starts in 2023.
Freshman first baseman
Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) is slashing .305/.400/.519 with 37 runs, 47 hits, including 13 doubles, one triple and six home runs, 41 runs batted in, 25 walks drawn in 45 starts so far in his rookie campaign.
Fellow first-year player
Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) was named the NE10 Southwest Division Rookie Hitter of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team after tallying 19 runs, 23 hits, six doubles, two triples, three home runs and 20 runs batted in 20 NE10 starts.
Left-handed starting pitcher
Max Parker (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) was also named to the NE10 All-Conference First Team after establishing a 1.55 ERA in four NE10 regular season starts (29.0 innings pitched). Parker most recently tossed 7.0 innings during Le Moyne's NE10 Championship First Round win over Adelphi University on May 9.
DiGeorge has an NE10-best 1.60 earned run average through 12 appearances, including six starts, and 56.1 innings pitched so far in 2023 for the Dolphins. His 1.60 ERA is good for 5
th among all DII pitchers. His 2023 record stands at 6-1.
DiGeorge and Patchett were both named to the all-conference second team, and Roden earned a spot on the third team. Carroll was placed on the NE10 All-Defensive Team.
Le Moyne leads all NE10 Southwest Division teams in home runs (52), doubles (96) and runs batted in (299), and they are second in the division in walks drawn (236).
The Queens College Knights went 29-16 during the regular season, then won four games in the ECC tournament to claim the conference title and earn the program's first berth to the NCAA Championship in 25 years.
The Knights defeated top-seeded Molloy twice in the ECC Tournament Championship series to steal the conference's automatic bid. The winner-take-all title match went to extra innings after QC irst baseman Anthony Fontana tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a solo home run, then right fielder Jorsixt Jimenez ripped a one-out double in the bottom of the tenth and came around to score later in the inning to lift the Knights to an NCAA-tournament clinching walk-off victory.
Fontana, Jimenez and second baseman Marc Cisco each earned a spot on the 2023 ECC All-Conference First Team. Jimenez took home the conference's Rookie of the Year Award, and starting pitchers Liam Pulsipher, Jordan Sanabria and Danny Gargano were named to the all-conference second team along with designated hitter Matt Filip.
Fontana currently has a slash line of .386/.465/.660 with 34 runs, 50 RBI and 59 hits, including a team-high nine home runs. Jimenez, playing in his first collegiate season, is slashing .379/.470/.599 with 44 runs, a team-high 69 hits, including a team-best 25 extra-base hits, and a team-high and ECC-leading 55 RBI.
Cisco has scored a team-best 58 runs so far this season for the Knights to go along with 56 hits, including 12 doubles, two triples and four home runs, 28 runs batted in, and 44 walks drawn (most among ECC players). Pulsipher currently holds a 4-2 record in 10 starts with a 4.48 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 60.1 innings pitched. Senior left-handed pitcher Dean Fazah has a team-best five wins on the mound this season for the Knights, including a 3-1 record in five starts and 27.2 innings pitched during conference play.
Among the 2023 NCAA Championship East Region participants, Queens took on SNHU, Goldey-Beacom and Felician during the regular season. The Knights opened the campaign with a contest against Southern New Hampshire in Myrtle Beach and the Penmen came away with a 10-2 victory. Queens and Goldey-Beacom split their four-game non-conference series in March, then the Knights won both of their games against Felician by scores of 4-0 and 14-12.
The Felician Golden Falcons went 21-29 during the regular season, but went 4-1 during the CACC postseason tournament to claim the conference title and earn the CACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Felician claimed an 8-3 win over Goldey-Beacom during their CACC tournament run, but the Lightning won both contests between the two sides during the regular season.
Shortstop Cole Porter, redshirt-senior pitcher Wilfrido Valenzuela and redshirt-senior first baseman Edwin Tavarez were each named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Conference First Team, while redshirt-junior third baseman Dauri Genao, and sophomore right-handed pitcher Mike Caldon were both placed on the second team.
The Golden Falcons claimed a 9-7 win over SNHU on February 23 with the help of four hits and three RBI from rookie Haiden Walters. Felician lost two games to Queens during the regular season, and lost all three of their games against Franklin Pierce.
Genao is slashing .355/.415/.484 through 50 games played this season with 31 runs, 37 RBI, 18 walks and a team-high 66 hits.
Walters has tallied a team-best 41 runs batted in with 60 hits, including a team-high six triples, 46 runs, 12 stolen bases and 32 walks drawn. Redshirt-senior outfielder Chris Fernandez has provided 44 runs, 56 hits (including 11 doubles, 5 triples and a team-high 7 home runs) 40 runs batted in and 14 stolen bases.
Porter started all 25 regular season conference games for the Golden Falcons and contributed 19 runs, 33 hits, 14 RBI and seven stolen bases with a .423/.495/.513 slash line. Tavarez delivered a team-high 23 RBI during conference season, and on the year, he registered 37 runs, 64 hits (including 12 doubles, 2 triples and 6 home runs) 34 RBI and 23 walks.
The Goldey-Beacom Lightning went 31-16 during the regular season, then won their first three games of the CACC Tournament before losing to Felician and Post, which eliminated them from the conference championship.
GBC won both games of their doubleheader against Le Moyne in February, then played a four-game series against Queens in March, followed by a four-game series against nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire.
The Lightning split both doubleheaders against the Knights, then they took three of four games from the Penmen.
Following the regular season, junior third baseman Kyle Walker, senior catcher Johnny Kampes, and junior left-handed pitcher Jake Kelchner were each named to the CAA All-Conference First Team and sophomore outfielder Christian Petrillo was named to the second team.
Kampes and Walker Kampes and Walker are both in the top five among CACC hitters in runs batted in with 53 and 46 so far this season, respectively. Kampes led the league in runs scored (57), doubles (21) and stolen bases (43) to go along with 24 walks and 68 hits. Goldey-Beacom's Petrillo and junior outfielder Demetrius Johnson are second and third in the conference, respectively, behind Kampes, with 32 and 23 stolen bases. Walker has recorded a team-best 71 hits so far this season to go along with 45 runs, 46 runs batted in and 18 stolen bases.
Walker, Petrillo, junior infielder Darin Miller, Johnson and senior outfielder Marlon Lindsey Jr. have each started all 52 games so far this season for the Lightning.
