Providence, R.I. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team traveled to Brown University to take on the Bears Friday afternoon in their Pizzitola Sports Center. The Dolphins put up a hard fight but ultimately the Bears took all three sets with scores of, 25-10, 25-16, and 25-15.
"Today's match we showed that we can be competitive with a strong team, but we need to play better volleyball." said head coach
Susan Kim. "We weren't as aggressive as we needed to be and we didn't make adjustments quick enough. We have some growing pains for sure, but I'm definitely seeing progress and that's a win for us."
For the Dolphins, junior outside hitter
Emily La Ruffa (Rock Hill, N.Y. / Monticello) led the team in kills registering five, followed by senior outside hitter
Madison Dembroski (Plattekill, N.Y. / Wallkill) and senior middle hitter
Marie Rhodes (Lancaster, N.Y. /St. Mary's) who both had two. Sophomore setter
Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier) directed the offense with 11 assists and four digs, while junior libero/DS
Ella Katz (Burnt Hills, N.Y. / Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake) recorded 10 digs, and freshman libero/DS
Haley Buescher (Toledo, Ohio / St. Ursula Academy) had four digs and one assist.
For the Bears, Jilienne Widener registered 12 kills, four aces, and two blocks. Hannah Flannery had nine kills, Kayla Griebl had six kills, and five digs. Cierra Jenkins directed their offense with 33 assists, while Jessie Golden had four assists and 14 digs. Victoria Vo had eight digs.
The Dolphins next game will be at the University of Rhode Island on September 2
