Kingston, R.I. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team continued their stay in Rhode Island this weekend for a match against the University of Rhode Island this afternoon in their Keaney Gymnasium. The Rams took the first set 25-7, but the Dolphins came back winning their first set of their season so far, 25-29. The Rams came back to win the final two sets, 25-23 and 25-20 ultimately winning the match 3-1.
"Today's match was a total team effort." said head coach Susan Kim. "While we wish the outcome could've been different, it shows that we can be resilient and bounce back even when things aren't going the way we want. We had players making big plays today by playing relentless defense and we also showed that we can attack aggressively. It's encouraging to see the work we're putting in at practice being applied in gameplay."
For the Dolphins, junior outside hitter Emily La Ruffa (Rock Hill, N.Y. / Monticello) led the team in kills recording 12, closely followed by sophomore middle hitter Kayla Anstett (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) who had 11 kills, and five blocks, and senior outside hitter Madison Dembroski (Plattekill, N.Y. / Wallkill) had seven kills, 11 digs, two aces, one block, and one assist. Sophomore setter Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier) recorded 36 assists, 11 digs, and three blocks. Junior libero/DS Ella Katz (Burnt Hills, N.Y. / Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake) had 15 digs and one assist.
For the Rams, Madi Disu recorded 12 kills, and three blocks. Andrea Owens had eight kills, eight digs, two aces, and two assists. Karlee Pinell had five kills. Chloe Abuto had five blocks and Megan Disu had three. Katie Butler led the Rams offense with 20 assists, and eight digs, followed by Catalina Hendricks who recorded 14 assists. Hannah Blaney had 17 digs.
The Dolphins next game will be Tuesday, September 5th against Binghamton University in their West Gym at 7:00pm.
