Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's basketball team will be taking part in the Pacific MTE in mid-November.
The first game for the Dolphins in the MTE (multi-team event), which is an NCAA-qualifying exempt event being organized by Russ Potts Productions, Inc., will be on Tuesday, November 21 at California State University Northridge (CSUN). The Dolphins will then conclude their play in the MTE at the University of the Pacific on Friday, November 24. As part of the MTE, CSUN and Pacific will also play each other along with each hosting Mississippi Valley State.
CSUN went 7-25 during the 2022-23 season, including a mark of 4-16 in Big West Conference action. The Matadors, who are led by first-year head coach Andy Newman, return four letterwinners from last year's squad, which fell in the first round of the Big West Championship, while adding nine transfers and two freshmen.
Pacific is coming off of a 15-18 record during the 2022-23 season, including a record of 7-9 in West Coast Conference play. The Tigers, who were the seventh seed in the WCC Championship and advanced to the second round, return 10 letterwinners from last season, while bringing in two transfers and two freshmen.
The Dolphins, who will be playing in the state of California for the first time since December 2007, return seven letterwinners and two redshirts, including all four members who started at least 20 games, from last year's squad, which went 15-15, including 11-9 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Dolphins were the sixth seed in the NE10 Championship and scored the final five points of the game to defeat Saint Michael's College, 77-74, in the first round before falling to eventual regional runner-up Bentley University. Isaiah Salter and
Luke Sutherland, two of their top three rebounders, Sutherland and graduate student
Mike DePersia, and top two assist leaders, Salter and DePersia. Salter averaged 11.7 points and 3.0 assists per game in his first season as a Dolphin, Sutherland posted 11.2 points and 4.3 rebounds and DePersia recorded 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists. For his efforts on the defensive side of the ball, DePersia was named to the inaugural Northeast-10 Conference All-Defensive Team.
