SIX DIFFERENT DOLPHINS SCORE AS WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS DELAWARE STATE

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's soccer team defeated Delaware State 6-0 Thursday night.

The six goals scored by the Dolphins is tied for 3rd most in program history. The previous time the Dolphins scored six goals in a single game was against Saint Michael's almost nine years ago to date, in a 6-3 win on October 17th, 2015.

"Today was a very good and complete performance by our team" said head coach Jaro Zawislan. "We are very proud of our players, how they prepared themselves for the game, how focused they were, and how they executed on both sides of the ball."

Le Moyne made three changes to their starting lineup against Stonehill, that saw junior forward Courtney Felton (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield/Roberts Wesleyan), senior Katelyn Courcy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and senior forward Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) return to the starting XI.

The Dolphins started the game quickly as Wilson registered the first shot of the game in the 5th minute of the game that was saved by freshman goalkeeper Katie Knapp. Senior midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) had a shot on the ensuing corner that was just off target.

Freshman forward Nicole Calle (Providence, R.I./Cumberland) hit the crossbar in the 10th minute of action as the 'Phins were searching for their first goal of the contest.

Le Moyne scored it's first goal of the game in the 27th minute of the game after Casey hit the woodwork off a left footed strike, eventually finding the feet of redshirt freshman defender/forward Logan Cookinham (Poland, N.Y./Poland) who took a shot with her left foot finding the back of the net.

The Dolphins looked to keep the pressure on as sophomore midfielder Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and Cookinham recorded two additional shots in the following two minutes of play.

Sophomore midfielder Maria Komala (Warsaw, Poland/Notre Dame College) was joined by classmate Kyla Sustad (Willet, N.Y./Cincinnatus/Merrimack) as they both entered the game in the 34th minute.

A minute later in the 35th minute, the Dolphins won a free kick in the Hornets half that was taken by junior defender Jasmina Barhoumi (Worms, Germany/Nelly-Sachs-IGS/D'Youville). She played a ball into the box that took a bounce, and was headed into the back of the net by Casey to put Le Moyne up 2-0.

Le Moyne added its third goal of the game in the 37th minute of action as Cookinham played a through ball into the path of Courcy, who calmly collected the ball and placed it into the bottom left corner of the goal to score her first collegiate goal.

Fifth year defender Jenicah Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland/Cazenovia) and freshman forward Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) entered the game for Le Moyne in the 42nd minute of the game. The two teams went into the half with Le Moyne dominating the half with a 3-0 lead.

It took the Dolphins just four minutes into the 2nd half to add their fourth goal of the game, as Calle scored her first goal of the game as Casey beat her defender on the endline, playing in a cross that was tapped home into the Hornets goal.

Le Moyne continued to pressure the goal of Delaware State, registering five shots over the next six minutes of play. Felton eventually added the 5th goal of the game as Calle turned into the provider, crossing the ball into the box from the left wing and met by Felton, hitting a first time finish with her left foot to give Le Moyne a 5-0 lead, with no signs of slowing down.

Freshman midfielder Ajla Ikeljic (Utica, N.Y./Frankfurt-Schuyler) made her first appearance of the game, 10th of the season, in the 69th minute of play. Freshman goalkeeper Simone Schwarz-Eise (Scottsdale, A.Z./Averill Park) made her fifth appearance of the season as she came on to replace classmate Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) in the 75th minute.

Sustad added the sixth goal of the evening for Le Moyne in the 79th minute. The Dolphins had a free kick deep in their own half taken by Barhoumi, playing a long ball over the top of the Hornets defense, eventually finding the feet of Sustad who placed a left footed shot past sophomore goalkeeper Shelby Pollard. Sophomore forward Hope Adigun (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) came into the game on the restart to make her fifth appearance of the season.

Le Moyne went on to win the game 6-0, their largest margin of victory since August 27th, 2009 in a match against St. Thomas Aquinas which also resulted in a 6-0 win for the 'Phins. The Dolphins registered a total of 30 shots, which is also tied for 2nd most shots in a single game in program history.

"We want the players to enjoy this game and the result," said Zawislan. "Tomorrow we get back to work as we prepare for Chicago State on Sunday"

Le Moyne travels to newly added NEC opponent Chicago State Sunday. Action is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00 P.M.
