10/12/2024 5:40:00 PM

Hamilton, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished out the Colgate Invite on Saturday morning. The men's squad finished the meet with a score of 435.5 for a fourth place finish while the women's team tallied 185 and came in fifth.

"I'm really impressed by the performances of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams," said head coach Adam Zaczkowski '04. "We faced very good opponents in UMass, Colgate, St. Bonaventure and St. Francis.  Our squad swam hard and the times showed it."

"Last week's NEC Prime Performers, freshman Alexander Pilieci (Ottawa, O.N. / John McCrae) and freshman Michael White Jr. (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) showed it was no fluke. They had great individual swims.  Freshman Lucas Clay (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) won the men's 200 breaststroke and is a clear NEC favorite in that event."

"On the women's side, freshmen Kaiya Fraley (Watervliet, N..Y. / Shaker) and Kim Velazquez (Fairfield, C.T. / Fairfield Warde) showed continued improvement and the 100 free split from sophomore Kayleigh Bigwarfe (Glenmont, N.Y. / Bethlehem) in the relay was a real bright spot."

"Our divers performed well. Freshmen Louis Allison (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury) and Gabby Williams (Scotia, N.Y. / Scotia-Glenville) had good one-meter performances. Last year's NEC Champion, junior Patrick Scott (Utica, N.Y. / New Hartford / Niagara), is introducing new dives and is in mid-season form."

"We had many season best times and quite a few life-time bests as well."

Women's Squad:
Junior Brooke Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) took eighth in the 200-yard backstroke with a final time of 2:13.03.

Williams came in eighth in the 3 meter dive with a score of 181.55.

Men's Team:
White finished in sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.25.

Clay took the top spot in the 200 -yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.23.

Pilieci placed eighth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.41.

Clay and White finished back-to-back in the fourth and fifth spots in the 200-yard individual medley with times of 1:57.34 and 1:59.69, respectively.
