WOMEN'S SOCCER EARNS A DRAW AT HOME AGAINST SAINT FRANCIS

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's soccer team earned a point against Saint Francis on Thursday as both teams were held scoreless.

The Dolphins starting lineup remained unchanged from its last two games against Chicago State and Delaware State, as sophomore midfielder Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and junior defender Jasmina Barhoumi (Worms, Germany/Nelly-Sachs-IGS/D'Youville) made their 16th start of the campaign in as many games.

Saint Francis entered today's contest following a 1-0 loss versus FDU, and looked to keep its Northeast Conference Tournament hopes alive. Le Moyne entered the game after earning a point against Chicago State and three points against Delaware State, looking to continue its momentum.

Freshman goalkeeper Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) was called into action early, comfortably saving a shot from senior midfielder Lauren Pyle in the 5th minute of play. Freshman forward Nicole Calle (Providence, R.I./Cumberland) responded quickly, forcing a save in the 7th minute from senior goalkeeper Emma Sawich of the Red Flash.

Action continued to go back and forth as McPheron pulled out another save in the 12th minute from a shot outside the box by Pyle. Redshirt freshman Logan Cookinham (Poland, N.Y./Poland) made her 15th appearance of the season in the 17th minute of play looking to make an impact on the game.

McPheron made her 3rd save of the game in the 20th minute from a shot by junior forward Raine Korpics to keep the 'Phins alive. Sophomore defender Maria Komala (Warsaw, Poland/Notre Dame College) made her 7th appearance of the season for Le Moyne in the 32nd minute. McPheron continued to perform well as she made her 4th save of the game just two minutes after Komala entered the match.

Fifth year midfielder Jenicah Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland/Cazenovia), freshman forward Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and sophomore midfielder Kyla Sustad (Willet, N.Y./Cincinnatus/Merrimack) entered the game in the 36th minute of play as the Red Flash also made a triple substitution. On the ensuing possession, junior midfielder/defender Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminister, Mass./St. Bernard's) registered a shot to the left of the post and out for a goal kick.

McPheron added two more saves to her tally just before half to keep the score knotted at 0-0.

Both teams put out the same lineup that started the game to begin the 2nd half. Calle registered the first shot of the half that was blocked by a defender for the Red Flash. Saint Francis had its best chance of the game in the 57th minute as senior forward Tomke Dziesiaty hit the left post off of a shot inside the 18-yard box.

Freshman midfielder/forward Sara Ullman (Washington, D.C./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was joined by Cookinham and Komala off the bench, looking to provide a spark for the 'Phins. Junior forward Courtney Felton (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield/Roberts Wesleyan) re-entered the game in the 75th minute to give the Dolphins some pace in behind the defese of the Red Flash.

Senior midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) had her shot saved by Sawich in the 78th minute of the game. The game quickly intensified in the remaining ten minutes of play as both teams looked to gain an edge on the other. Senior forward/defender Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) was joined by Brown and Cookinham looking to find a late winner.

Le Moyne earned a free kick around midfield taken by Barhoumi. The ball bounced around the box until senior midfielder/defender Gabriella Sylstra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Richard Bland/Old Dominion) fired off a shot that was blocked by a defender of the Red Flash. Saint Francis quickly countered the opposite direction outnumbering Le Moyne 4-3, as the ball eventually found the feet of freshman forward Claire Scarpin who''s shot was blocked by a chasing Barhoumi, a potentially game-saving tackle.

Freshman forward Alyssa Mella found herself 1-on-1 with McPheron in the 87th minute, as McPheron rushed out of her goal and made a sliding save to keep the score even at 0-0. The Red Flash had a corner kick that bounced around the box and was eventually cleared down the field.

Neither team could keep possession as Calle made a tackle, collected the ball and played Cookinham through on goal. Cookinham took a touch and fired a shot with her left foot that was saved by Sawich. Sawich punted the ball up the field, and the Red Flash countered yet again, resulting in a save off a cross by McPheron.

With 20 seconds remaining in the game, McPheron made the biggest save of the game from a shot headed to the top right of the goal from roughly 30-yards out by Pyle. Saint Francis were unable to score off the ensuing corner as the game came to a close with a score of 0-0.

McPheron ended the day with a game-high 8 saves, the third time this season she finished a game with 8 saves, giving Le Moyne its second clean sheet of the season.

Le Moyne travels to Wagner College on Thursday to compete in its second to last away match of the season. Kickoff is scheduled to begin at 7:00 P.M.
