Staten Island, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's soccer team were defeated in its road match against Wagner on Thursday.
The Dolphins starting lineup remained unchanged from the previous four contests, as junior defender
Jasmina Barhoumi (Worms, Germany/Nelly-Sachs-IGS/D'Youville) and sophomore midfielder
Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) make their 17
th consecutive start for the 'Phins.
Wagner entered the match on top of the Northeast Conference standings following a 1-0 win at Saint Francis. Le Moyne looked to continue its momentum following three straight results earning at least a point against Delaware State, Chicago State and Saint Francis.
The Seahawks started the game on the front foot, registering the first shot of the game after one minute of action from freshman defender Hailey Knapp, sailing over the goal of Le Moyne.
Wagner earned themselves three straight corner kicks in the first five minutes of play. On the third corner, freshman goalkeeper
Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) punched away the initial kick before the ball ended up on the left wing collected by senior forward Olivia Rubbo of the Seahawks. She took a few touches before playing in a cross, finding an open freshman midfielder Deirdre Meberg, settling the ball down and striking with her right foot into the bottom left corner.
The Seahawks continued to pressure the Dolphins, adding two more shots to their tally in the 15
th minute. McPheron made her first save of the game in the 16
th minute off of a deep free kick taken by Knapp that was heading towards the top left corner. She would add another save three minutes later, keeping the Le Moyne in the game.
Freshman forward
Nicole Calle (Providence, R.I./Cumberland) recorded the first shot of the game for the 'Phins in the 20
th minute of play from the left wing, the shot just outside the post of the Seahawk net. About a minute and a half later, Vigliotti took a shot from distance hoping to find Wagner's senior goalkeeper Sam Hughes off of her line, resulting in a goal kick. Barhoumi added a third shot for Le Moyne, taking a free kick from distance requiring Hughes to make her first save of the game.Â
Redshirt Freshman defender/forward
Logan Cookinham (Poland, N.Y./Poland) made her 16th appearance of the season for Le Moyne in the 28
th minute of play. McPheron made her third save of the game in the 31
st minute ahead of sophomore midfielder
Kyla Sustad (Willet, N.Y./Cincinnatus/Merrimack) making her 17
th appearance of the season in the 33
rd minute.
McPheron added a fourth save just before half as the two teams entered the break with the Seahawks having a 1-0 advantage over the Dolphins.
Mikayla was called into action early into the 2
nd half, needing to make two saves in the opening five minutes of play. Calle had the first shot of the 2
nd half for the 'Phins in the 55
th minute, resulting in a comfortable save from Hughes.
Sophomore defender
Maria Komala (Warsaw, Poland/Notre Dame College) made her first appearance of the game and 8
th of the season in the 60
th minute of play. Freshman midfielder/forward
Sara Ullman (Washington, D.C./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) joined Komala three minutes later to make her 10
th appearance of the season.
The two teams continued to battle back and forth, as neither side were able to find a shot on target over the next fifteen minutes of action. The Dolphins had their best opportunity in the game in the 79
th minute after earning a corner. Senior midfielder/defender
Gabriella Sysltra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Richard Bland/Old Dominion) whipped her corner into the back post, finding the feet of Barhoumi looking to redirect it towards goal, but finding the hands of Hughes.
The game started to open up in the final ten minutes of play as the Dolphins and Seahawks traded shots back and forth, resulting in two consectutive saves from McPheron, and a save from Hughes. Calle added another shot in the 86
th minute, but the Le Moyne were unable to find the back of the net.
Wagner went on to win the contest 1-0 thanks to its early goal from Meberg, as the Seahawks clinched their birth to NEC postseason play. McPheron recorded 11 total saves throughout the match, her third highest tally of the season.

The Dolphins will be back home Sunday to take on CCSU for their final home match of the season. Le Moyne will also host senior day honors prior to the kickoff as action is scheduled to begin at 3:00 P.M. on Ted Grant Field.
