WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATED IN FINAL HOME GAME OF THE SEASON

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's soccer team were defeated in its final home contest of the season after taking on the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University (CCSU).

CCSU entered today's match following a 4-2 loss at home against Saint Francis. Le Moyne entered today's contest following a 1-0 loss on the road against Wagner.

Le Moyne held its senior day ceremony to honor senior midfielder Gabriella Sylstra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Richard Bland/Old Dominion), senior defender/midfielder Katelyn Courcy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and senior defender/forward Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton). Also honored were senior midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and fifth year midfielder Jenicah Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland/Cazenovia) both of which participated in last year's ceremony.

The Dolphins made one change to the starting lineup they fielded against Wagner, which saw sophomore defender Maria Komala (Warsaw, Poland/Notre Dame College) male her second start of the season, and 9th appearance of the campaign.

The Blue Devils looked to get in behind the defense of Le Moyne quickly, as they had three offsides called against them in the first eight minutes of the game. Freshman goalkeeper Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) made her first save of the game in the 18th minute off a shot from point blank by senior midfielder Nicolle Santos.

Le Moyne made its first change of the contest in the 28th minute, as redshirt freshman defender/forward Logan Cookinham (Poland, N.Y./Poland) entered the game for junior forward Courtney Felton (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield/Roberts Wesleyan). Sophomore midfielder Kyla Sustad (Willet, N.Y./Cinncinatus/Merrimack) also joined Cookinham three minutes later to provide a different look for the 'Phins.

Freshman forward Nicole Calle (Providence, R.I./Cumberland) registered the first shot of the game for Le Moyne in the 34th minute of action, resulting in a comfortable save for sophomore goalkeeper Taylor DeFlorio. Calle and Cookinham both had their shots blocked in the 38th minute of the game, as Le Moyne were still searching for that first goal.

Senior midfielder/defender Gabriella Sylstra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Richard Bland/Old Dominion) recorded her first shot of the game in the 39th minute from distance, not troubling DeFlorio. Freshman forward Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) made her 14th appearance for the 'Phins in the 40th minute of play, looking to keep the momentum going.

Neither team were able to gain an edge on the other as the two teams went into halftime with the score knotted at 0-0.

The Blue Devils registered the first shot of the 2nd half in the 59th minute. Junior midfielder/defender Sabrina Krause received a pass, taking a touch before firing off a shot with her left foot, resulting in another comfortable save for McPheron. Calle added another two shots to her tally ten minutes later, however off target.

Sustad re-entered the game in the 71st minute and was immediately involved in the action. The Dolphins earned themselves a corner taken by Sylstra, playing a ball into the box that was headed out by a defender for CCSU. Junior defender Jasmina Barhoumi (Worms, Germany/Nelly-Sachs-IGS/D'Youville) the ball at the edge of the box, laying it off to Sustad who's shot may have taken a deflection but resulted in a goal kick.

The game began to get chippy with just over ten minutes to go, as sophomore midfielder/forward Riley Powers made an aggressive challenge on junior midfielder/defender Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminister, Mass./St. Bernard's), resulting in the first yellow card of the game. A yellow card was also issued to the bench of the Dolphins for their reaction to the foul.

Le Moyne continued to create chances as senior midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) found the feet of Calle just outside the box. Calle took a few touches beating her defender and took a shot with her left foot just missing the near post, resulting in a goal kick for the Blue Devils. The Dolphins earned a free kick in the 81st minute from roughly 25-yards out. Sylstra stepped up to take the free kick, firing off a shot to the bottom left corner that was saved by DeFlorio.

CCSU scored its first goal of the game with 7:29 remaining in the game as freshman forward Hannah Dorney received a ball played over the top on the left wing. She took on the defender for Le Moyne, beating her down the sideline until cutting it back onto her right foot by the endline, firing a shot into the top right corner to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore midfielder Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) recorded her first yellow card of the season through 18 games for a challenge late in the game. The following free kick for the Blue Devils was cleared out by Barhoumi, as Le Moyne looked to counter quickly in the other direction. Calle recorded her 6th shot of the game on the ensuing possession, resulting in another goal kick for CCSU.

Le Moyne has one final opportunity with 0:20 remaining in the game as they earned a free kick just outside the box. Syslra stepped up to take the free kick, this time shooting just above the crossbar as the game came to a close with CCSU pulling out a 1-0 win over the Dolphins.

The Dolphins will play their final match of the season on Thursday as they travel Teaneck, N.J. to take on FDU. Action is scheduled to kickoff at 4:00 P.M.
