FOUR DOLPHINS SCORE IN MEN'S SOCCER SHUTOUT WIN AT CHICAGO STATE

Chicago, Ill. – The Le Moyne College men's soccer team tallied a season-high in goals, registered its third shutout of the campaign and claimed three points in the Northeast Conference Standings with a 4-0 victory at Chicago State University on Thursday night.

Sophomore defender Maximilian Huss (Karben, Germany/Elly-Heuss-Schule) and freshman forward Noah Morelli (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) both scored their first career goals during the win, while redshirt-junior midfielder Ziad Abdul-Malak (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) added his third tally of the campaign, and redshirt-freshman forward Justin Pham (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Dayton), who put away his first career goal during Le Moyne's 2-2 draw against FDU in the NEC opener on Sunday, contributed a goal and an assist for a career-high three points.

"Really happy to come away with three points and a clean sheet," said Le Moyne head coach Callum Donnelly '17, M '21. "The boys were clinical and I was happy to see four different goal scorers. We came through some tough moments at 1-0, but we are growing each game and I felt we showed some maturity in the performance," Donnelly added.

Le Moyne sophomore goalkeeper Wyatt Dupell (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) came up with four saves to collect his third clean sheet of the season, and recorded his first career assist after setting up Pham's goal with a long punt over the CSU defense in the 74th minute.

The Dolphins' four goals surpassed their previous season high of three goals scored in the opener against Canisius, and are the most scored by the team in a game since the transition to Division I.

Abdul-Malak recorded a team-high two shots on goal during the match. Dupell and defenders Jack Goodrich (Kelsall, England/King's School Chester) and Victor Boje Henriksen (Greve, Denmark/Greve Gymnasium/Saint Rose) each played the full 90 minutes.

For the first time in his 26 games played as a Dolphin, Huss did not play the full 90 minutes after being subbed off in the 85th minute.

Redshirt-freshman midfielder Aaron Huskic (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and freshman defender Andrew Piccolo (Toronto, Ontario/Michael Power-St. Joseph) both made their Le Moyne debuts during the second half.

How it happened:
Le Moyne, looking for its first conference win of the season, struck first in the 15th minute as Huss stole the ball in the middle of the Dolphins' attacking third, dribbled past a sliding defender into the left side of the Chicago State penalty area and placed a right-footed shot around the goalkeeper and into the right side of the net to record his first career tally.

Chicago State nearly tied the game in the 35th minute as Danail Sergiev made a run into the box and poked a left-footed shot from just outside the six-yard box, but Dupell came up with a kick save to deny the chance.

Abdul-Malak received a pass in the left side of the CSU penalty area in the 54th minute, cut to his right and ripped a shot towards the bottom left corner of the goal, but CSU's Lucas Fontana scooped up the shot to record his first save of the match.

Chicago State went on a quick counter attack in the 69th minute as Sergiev worked his way into the left side of the Le Moyne penalty area and drove a hard shot on goal, but Dupell knocked it away for a corner kick. Dupell denied Sergiev for a third time in the 73rd minute, this time from point blank range as Sergiev slid near the penalty spot to redirect an aerial pass on goal, but the oncoming Dupell reacted quickly to knock the shot towards the sideline.

Dupell scooped up a cross attempt moments later, then drove a long punt up the center of the field. The ball skipped past the Chicago State defense into the path of Pham, who tracked the it down just before reaching the 18-yard box. With one defender to beat, Pham took a couple dribbles then cut to his right and smashed a shot that went off the goalkeepers' gloves but carried across the goal line and into the net to give the rookie his second goal in as many games.

Less than two minutes later, the Dolphins won a corner kick and Pham sent a cross into the box that was volleyed into the net by Abdul-Malak to make it 3-0 in favor of the Dolphins. The goal was Abdul-Malak's third of the season, and Pham recorded his first career assist on the play.

Following a Le Moyne goal kick with less than five minutes remaining, the ball was headed towards the Le Moyne back line, and Henriksen drove the ball back up the field towards CSU's defensive third.

Pham fought for possession just outside the 18-yard box, and the ball fell in front of Morelli, who took a touch then smashed a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net to register his first collegiate goal and give Le Moyne a 4-0 lead.

The Dolphins now hold four points in the league standings through two NEC contests and are unbeaten in their last seven matches.

Le Moyne returns to action on October 12 at Stonehill before hosting its final non-conference game on October 15 against Lafayette.
