Bogota, N.J. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team was upended by FDU, 6-1, on Saturday night in Northeast Conference action at the Bogota Racquet Club.
The Knights swept the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead. At the top spot, Anastasia Lim and Namie Isago recorded a 6-2 win over freshman
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) and sophomore
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences). Valentina Silva and Katsiaryna Kostsina clinched the point with a 6-2 win over sophomores
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) at the third position. Alena Kubanova and Gauri Bhagia completed the sweep with another 6-2 win at the second spot over senior
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and graduate student
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil).
Casares was victorious at the first singles spot, 7-5, 6-0, over Kubanova to even the match at one point apiece. Lim put the Knights back in front with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the second position over Raiss. In the closest match of singles, Isago recorded a 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) victory over Alvarez at the third spot. Silva clinched the match for FDU with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the fourth position over Barona. Kostsina registered back-to-back scores of 6-1 to down Lilliegren at the sixth spot. Bhagia was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at the fifth position over Simeonova.
Le Moyne (2-4, 1-2 NEC) is back in action on Sunday against Wagner College at 6:00 p.m. at the College of Staten Island Tennis Courts.
