MEN’S LACROSSE DOWNS MERCER, 10-6

Macon, Ga. – Redshirt junior swingman Ethan Loun (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) tallied four points to lead the Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 10-6 victory over Mercer University on Sunday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.

The Dolphins blitzed the Bears with four goals in the opening four and one-half minutes. Loun got the scoring started at the 12:34 mark with his eighth goal of the season. Just 36 seconds later, graduate student midfielder Jack Grooms (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Hobart) netted his fifth goal of the campaign after collecting a pass from junior midfielder Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton). Following a save by redshirt freshman goalkeeper Carter Ruhm (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal/Bridgton Academy/Robert Morris) about 30 seconds later, senior short-stick defensive midfielder Max Cramer (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) carried the ball 48 yards up the middle of the field before firing in his career-best second goal of the season with just over 11 minutes remaining in the quarter. Just 50 seconds later, freshman attackman Mason Ciciarelli (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied his first career goal off a feed from Loun.

Mercer countered with the next three goals. Christian Laureano got his team on the scoreboard at the 8:50 mark. The Bears cut their deficit to two with 6:18 left in the opening quarter as Jackson Hirschy finished off a feed from Michael Frederick. Chase Cope made it 4-3 with 5:45 left off a dish from Dillon Bush.

Le Moyne took a 5-3 lead with 1:15 remaining in the quarter as junior attackman Isaac Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) netted his third goal of the season following a pass from sophomore midfielder Zack Crosby (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn).

Frechette pushed the margin to 6-3 just 1:41 into the second quarter.

Following over 11 minutes of scoreless play, Loun recorded his second goal of the game and team-best ninth of the year with 2:00 to go.

Parker Junod pulled the Bears back within three with 1:09 left in the half off a pass from Hirschy.

Cope tallied the first goal of the third quarter to get Mercer within 7-5 with 11:58 remaining.

Ciciarelli extended the lead back to three with 10:14 left.

Off a loose ball with just under two minutes to go, Ryan Brooks collected it and fired it into the back of the net to make it 8-6 with 1:45 to go.

Le Moyne scored the only two goals of the fourth quarter. After almost eight minutes of scoreless play to start the period, sophomore attackman Owen Wilson (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) scored his second goal of the season after receiving a pass from junior midfielder Olin Stanat (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton). Senior attackman Joey Pezzimenti (Victor, N.Y./Victor/UAlbany) tossed in his sixth goal of the season off a pass from Loun with 1:48 left.

Ruhm finished the game with 12 saves, his third time in five games this season with at least 12. Senior defenseman Nick Mallette (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) led the defense with three caused turnovers, while graduate student long-stick midfielder Nick Noel (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) had five ground balls, as did junior faceoff specialist Sam Getty (Orchard Park, N.Y./Canisius HS), who recorded nine faceoff wins. Colin Kelley also made 12 saves for the Bears.

Le Moyne (2-3) is back in action on Saturday at Hobart College at 12:00 p.m. The contest will be the first against the Statesman in 40 years.
