Latham, N.Y. – Siena College registered a 5-2 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Saturday evening at Tri-City Fitness.
The Saints earned the point in the doubles competition by winning the first two matches to finish. Alexa Wilson and Emma Boggiali earned the first win, 6-2, at the first spot over sophomore
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and graduate student
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil). Jade Gautier and Shelby Madeiros clinched the point with a 6-2 win at the third position over sophomores
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset). Freshman
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and senior
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) had a 4-2 lead at the second spot over Laia Giralt/Manuela Gomez when the point was clinched.
Siena won the first four matches to finish in the singles competition. Wilson was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at the top spot over Casares. Gautier followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the sixth position over Lilliegren. Gomez clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the fourth spot over Barona. Giralt earned the final point at the second position against Fernando with back-to-back scores of 6-1. Simeonova earned Le Moyne's first point with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the fifth spot against DeFaber-Schumacher. Alvarez followed by defeating Boggiali at the third position, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 10-8.
Le Moyne (4-8) plays its first home match of the Spring on Sunday, March 24 against Merrimack College.
