Denver, Colo. – JJ Sillstrop registered five points to lead fourth-ranked University of Denver to a 15-6 victory over the Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team on Saturday night at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Le Moyne opened the game's scoring just 2:04 into the contest as senior midfielder
Kyle Caves (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored his first goal of the season.
The Pioneers scored the next two goals. Off a loose ball, JJ Sillstrop scooped it up and fired it into the net with 11:06 left for his 14th goal of the season. Just over seven and one-half minutes later, Michael Lampert recorded his fifth goal of the year.
Graduate student midfielder
Jack Grooms (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Hobart) evened the score at two apiece with his fourth goal of the campaign..
Senior attackman
Joey Pezzimenti (Victor, N.Y./Victor/UAlbany) put the Dolphins in front for the second time with his fifth goal of the season 1:09 into the second quarter after taking a pass from junior midfielder
Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton).
Mic Kelly tied the score at three just 1:07 later off a feed from Noah Manning.
Junior midfielder
Olin Stanat (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) put the Dolphins in front for the final time with his third goal of the season with 9:12 to go.
Denver scored twice in 36 seconds to take the lead back. Lampert tied the score at four with 3:47 remaining in the half before Joshua Carlson found the back of the net off a feed from Lampert with 3:11 left off a dish.
Redshirt junior attackman
Ethan Loun (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) knotted the score at five with 40 minutes until halftime with his seventh goal of the season.
Denver scored the only six goals of the third quarter to blow the game open. Carlson ignited the streak at the 13:41 mark off a pass from Sillstrop. Off the ensuing faceoff, Casey Wilson collected the loose ball after a shot hit the post and fired it into the back of the net. Just over one and one-half minutes later, Sillstrop scored his 15th goal of the season off a feed from Lucas Klokiw. After almost eight minutes of scoreless action, Cody Malawsky scored his third goal of the season with 3:59 left in the quarter off a pass from Sillstrop following a failed clear by the Dolphins. Klokiw made it a 10-5 game with his second goal of the season with 1:34 remaining. Just 17 seconds later, Malawsky tallied an extra-man goal after receiving a pass across the crease from Noah Manning.
The Pioneers extended the run with the first two goals of the fourth quarter. Lampert scored the first goal of the period at the 11:40 mark off a feed from Manning. Following a Le Moyne penalty, Richie Connell registered his third goal of the season after taking a pass from Sillstrop.
Eisenmann snapped the team's scoring drought with 5:55 remaining in the game with his fifth goal of the season off a dish from Caves.
Denver scored the last two goals of the game over the final 97 seconds. Willem Albert scored with 1:37 remaining after taking a pass from Chase Tzagournis and then Cade Eldred had the final goal with 24 seconds left.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Carter Ruhm (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal/Bridgton Academy/Robert Morris) registered 11 saves (against 13 goals) over 53:15. Malcolm Kleban made one save (against five goals) over 53:15 in the victory.
Le Moyne (1-3) returns to action on Sunday, March 10 at Mercer University at 12:00 p.m.
