ST. BONAVENTURE RALLIES FOR 4-3 WIN OVER MEN’S TENNIS

Olean, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure University rallied in singles action to defeat the Le Moyne College men's tennis team, 4-3, on Saturday at the SBU Tennis Center.

The Dolphins opened a 1-0 lead in the match by securing the point in the doubles competition. Rasmus Egehus and Connor Turner gave the Bonnies a 1-0 lead in doubles with a 6-2 win at the third position over graduate students Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense). The graduate student duo of Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist) and Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Filborna Gymnasium/Northwood) evened the doubles at one apiece with a 6-3 victory at the top spot over Hugo Cochlin and Archie Graham. After dropping the first three points, junior Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb) rallied for a 7-5 win at the second position over Anargha Ganguly and Jean Marrero to clinch the doubles point.

The Bonnies won four of the six matches in the singles competition to defeat the Dolphins. At the first spot, Graham was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Hatton. Cochlin followed with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 come-from-behind win at the fourth position over Stojanovic. Turner claimed the point at the fifth spot over junior Xavier Branagan (Wollstonecraft, Australia/St. Aloysius' College), 7-5, 6-1. Marrero recorded back-to-back scores of 6-2 at the sixth position against freshman Yegor Boyev (London, England/Ashcroft Technology Academy). Grundstroem won his third straight match, 6-1, 6-4, at the second spot over Ganguly. Piekarek registered a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Egehus at the third position.

Le Moyne (7-8) returns to action on Saturday at Siena College at 6:15 p.m. at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
