Olean, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure University registered a 7-0 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon at the SBU Tennis Center.
The Bonnies claimed wins in the top two spots of the doubles competition to claim the point. At the first position, Abbie Tyler and Cirkeline Lundberg recorded a 6-1 win over freshman
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) and sophomore
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences). After sophomores
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) defeated Kelly Barnes and Kashish Bote, 6-3, at the third spot, Isabella Venter and Sienna Smith clinched the point with a 7-5 win at the second position over junior
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and senior
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott).
The Dolphins were swept in the singles competition for just the second time this year. Venter started off by defeating Casares at the second position, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Lundberg then was victorious at the top spot over Raiss, 6-2, 6-3. Tyler claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at the third spot against Alvarez to clinch the match for the Bonnies. Smith downed Barona at the fourth position, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Barnes was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at the sixth position over Pepper. In the final match of the day to finish, Bote edged Simeonova at the fifth spot, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 10-5.
Le Moyne (4-7) is back in action on Saturday at Siena College at 6:15 p.m. at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
