WAGNER WINS GAME ONE OF SERIES AGAINST BASEBALL

Trenton, N.J. – The Le Moyne College baseball team suffered an 11-1 loss against Wagner College on Friday in the first contest of a Northeast Conference series at the Trenton Thunder Ballpark.

Shortstop Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) provided Le Moyne's lone run with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, his fourth long ball of the season, that made it 2-1 in favor of the Seahawks. Nevins finished the game with a team-high two hits.

Wagner added three runs in the bottom of the sixth, then tallied six runs in the eighth to pull away for the conference victory and improve to 13-6 against NEC opponents.

"We really did not do too many good things today other than Nick's home run," said Le Moyne head coach Scott Cassidy '98. "We did not swing the bats well and it wasn't our best day on the mound or defensively. These types of days happen. We gotta put it behind us and get ready for tomorrow."

Designated hitter Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and second baseman Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) each added a hit during the setback, which dropped Le Moyne to 9-9 in conference play, while left-handed starting pitcher Jacob Crystal (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) went 5.2 innings and right-hander Kennen Smith (Poughquag, N.Y./Arlington) completed 2.1 innings in relief.

Wagner starting right-handed pitcher Frankie Wright improved his record to 5-4 this season, and 5-1 against NEC opponents after limiting the Dolphins to four hits, one run and one walk with four strikeouts in eight innings, then lefty Keith Davis got the final three outs for the Seahawks.

Outfielders Lukas Torres and Josiah Ross, and designated hitter Diego Tavarez provided two RBIs each during the win, while Torres recorded a game-high three hits, including two doubles. Outfielder Albert Serrano and second baseman Chris Conniff added two hits and two runs each.

Le Moyne and Wagner will return to the Trenton Thunder Ballpark on Saturday for game two of the series at 4:00 p.m.
