New Britain, Conn. – The Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils completed a three-game sweep of the Le Moyne College baseball team with a 14-6 win over the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon at the CCSU Baseball Field.
Le Moyne right fielder
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and third baseman
Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) both launched two-run home runs during the setback, while CCSU right fielder Joe Rios led the Blue Devils with five runs batted in via a double and a home run.
"Our offense hit the ball hard all day and put together some really good at bats," said Le Moyne head coach
Scott Cassidy '98. "It's been tough dealing with some injuries with a few pitchers leaving us very short-staffed. They've done a great job for us but this weekend it caught up to us a bit. We've got to regroup and prepare for a midweek on Tuesday and a big weekend ahead."
Le Moyne struck first on Sunday with three runs in the top of the second inning. First baseman
Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) led off the inning with a single to center field, then Patchett drove a pitch over the center field wall to give the Dolphins a 2-0 advantage. The home run was Patchett's sixth of the season, which ties him for the team lead with shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham)
Designated hitter
Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) then drew a walk with the bases cleared, and left fielder
Jason Boule (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) smashed a double to left field during the next at bat to put runners on second and third with zero outs.
Keneston drew a walk to load the bases, then with one out in the inning, center fielder
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) lifted a fly ball to right field which allowed Fureno to tag up and score.
The Blue Devils scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from senior center fielder Michael Torniero.
Le Moyne got the run back in the top of the third as Fureno delivered a two-out RBI single to center field, driving in freshman second baseman
Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton), who led off the inning with a base hit to right field.
CCSU tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, then they tallied seven runs in the sixth to take an 11-4 lead.
Rios' two-run home run in the seventh made it 13-4 in favor of the Blue Devils, then Keneston smashed his fourth home run of the season in the eighth to cut Le Moyne's deficit back to seven runs.
CCSU scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from designated hitter Colby Brouillette.

Right-handed pitcher Luke Garofalo earned his first win of the season for the Blue Devils after tossing 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.
Le Moyne starting pitcher
Jordan Goldmann (Encinitas, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy/Palomar College/Grossmont College) completed five innings of work, then
Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder),
