Mike Lindberg '79, who previously served as director of athletics at Wells College and associate director of intercollegiate athletics at Ithaca College, has been named interim athletic director at Le Moyne College. He will start on Thursday, June 20.

Lindberg will serve in that role while the College conducts a national search for the position, which became vacant after the announcement on June 4 that Bob Beretta was leaving to become vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics at St. Bonaventure University.

"I am honored for the opportunity to serve my alma mater as the interim director of athletics and would like to thank President Linda LeMura and Board of Trustees Chair Peter DiLaura for the opportunity to bridge the leadership transition until a new director is selected," said Lindberg. "I look forward to working collaboratively with the Le Moyne community and the accomplished coaches, sports medicine team, communications and administrative staff as we prepare our student-athletes for an exciting 2024-25 in Division I and the Northeast Conference."

"I've known Mike for many years and am confident that his impressive experience will allow him to seamlessly move into this role," said Le Moyne President Linda LeMura. "I'm grateful that Mike has agreed to serve in this capacity as Le Moyne prepares for our second year in Division I."

Lindberg has more than 25 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics and more than 40 years in higher education. At Wells College as the director of athletics and physical education from 2014 to 2023, he oversaw 16 varsity sports for women and men and supervised 25 full-time staff. During his time in the role, he was responsible for design and construction of a $2.4 million multipurpose turf facility and represented the college on numerous campus committees. Throughout his time at Wells, he also taught courses in sports management, sport psychology and college success.

Prior to Wells, from 1998 to 2014 Lindberg was the associate director of intercollegiate athletics at Ithaca College. During his time there Ithaca fielded 27 varsity teams with a budget of $3.8 million, 80 full- and part-time employees and more than 800 student-athletes. Prior to his work in athletics at Ithaca College, he worked for 16 years in student development for the institution.

Lindberg is a graduate of Le Moyne, earning his bachelor's degree in business administration while competing as a member of the College's varsity soccer team. He received his master's degree in college student personnel administration from Indiana University. His wife Bonita is also a member of the Le Moyne class of 1979.

Le Moyne is currently putting together a search committee comprised of faculty, staff, students and alums to find its next athletic director. The College hopes to hire a permanent athletic director in time to begin the fall 2024 semester.
