Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College men's and women's cross country teams each earned a first place finish, opening the year with the 2024 Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational.
Senior
Jack Gibson (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy), sophomore
Tyler Cooper (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern) and freshman
Liam Rocks (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) each placed first, second and third helping the men finish first overall.
On the women's side, junior
Anita Jepchirchir (Eldoret, Kenya/The Kenya High School) and freshman
Isabella O'Donnell (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) also placed first and second to help the women capture a first place finish as well.
The men won the team title with 30 points, a 20 point differential behind Oswego State who placed 2nd overall with 50 points.
Gibson placed first place overall while also improving his personal record in the 6k by over 30 seconds, finishing with a time of 20:46.6. Cooper would finish nine seconds after him with a time of 20:55.5 earning himself a second place finish. In his first ever collegiate meet, Rocks would cross the finish line third overall in a time of 20:59.0 and third place overall. Sophomore
Mike Purvis (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) placed 10th overall with a time of 22:19.0. In his first collegiate meet, freshman
Carson Campbell (Lee Center, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) crossed the finish line in a time of 22:42.9 placing 14th overall. Junior
Jake Roman (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/SUNY Morrisville) placed 18th overall with a time of 23:03.5, and freshman
Brendan O'Rourke (New Milford, N.J./Bergen Catholic) placed 20th overall with a time of 23:07.2 to round out the scoring for the Dolphins.
The women would win the team title with 55 points, tying the point total of SUNY ESF and beating out SUNY Delhi by just three points.
Jepchirchir placed first overall with a time of 16:26.9. In her collegiate debut, O'Donnell would place second overall just four seconds behind her teammate, with a time of 16:30.2. Sophomore
Mackenzie Ples (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) earned herself a 5th place finish with a time of 17:04.8, while her classmate
Stephanie James (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) placed 16th overall with a time of 18:48.5. In her collegiate debut, freshman
Caitlin Lamphier (Woodhull, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) crossed the finish line 40th overall with a time of 25:32.5. Junior
Delaney Manahan (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) and freshman
Kiersten Lamphier (Woodhull, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) would have just 0.8 second difference between them, with Manahan finishing with a time of 26:23.0 and 43rd overall, and Kiersten crossing the line with a time of 26:23.8 placing 44th overall to round out the scoring for the 'Phins.
The Dolphins are back in action September 14th as they will head to Williamsville, N.Y. to compete in the Daemen Alumni Invitational.
