Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's soccer team were defeated in its matchup against Binghamton University Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins made three changes to their starting lineup that included a return to the first team from freshman forward
Nicole Calle (Providence, R.I./Cumberland), a debut in the first team from freshman forward
Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta), and a season debut from junior forward
Courtney Felton (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield/Roberts Wesleyan).
Binghamton entered today's contest with a record of 2-3-2 following a 4-0 win against Wagner.
After setting a program record 16 saves against Stony Brook, freshman goalkeeper
Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) made her first save just five minutes into the game. Fifth year midfielder
Jenicah Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) made an early entrance into the game, coming in after seven minutes of action. Sophomore defender
Maria Komala (Warsaw, Poland/Notre Dame College) made her debut with the Dolphins as her and freshman midfielder
Ajla Ikeljic (Utica, N.Y./Frankfurt-Schuyler) entered the game within 20 minutes of the 1
st half.
The Bearcats scored their first goal of the game off a corner kick taken by freshman midfielder Anna Buckwalter, and headed into the back of the net by senior forward Mackenzie Ryder. Freshman defender
Mallory Pietrzak (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) entered the game shortly after.
The Dolphins would have their first shot of the game just before half taken by sophomore midfielder
Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee). The two teams would enter halftime with the 'Phins trailling 1-0.
Le Moyne created two chances in the 2
nd half, first a shot coming from senior midfielder
Gabriella Sylstra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Richard Bland/Old Dominion) which was followed by a shot from senior midfielder
Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa). The Bearcats had the majority of the possession throughout the half, but struggled to find their way through the Dolphin back line.
Binghamton would eventually add its second goal in the 85
th minute off another corner kick taken by Buckwalter. Ryder was the first to meet the corner, heading the ball back to senior forward Hannah Mimas, collecting and striking the ball with her left foot into the bottom right of the Dolphin goal.
McPheron made seven saves throughout the game as Le Moyne were defeated 2-0 by Binghamton. The 'Phins are back in action Wednesday as they take on Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y. at 4:00 P.M.
