WOMEN’S TENNIS RECORDS 16 VICTORIES AT NATERENTALS.COM NEC INVITATIONAL

| Box Score 3 Binghamton, N.Y. – Senior Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) won a singles bracket and placed third in a doubles draw to lead the Le Moyne College women's tennis team at the NateRentals.com NEC Invitational hosted by Binghamton University Friday through Sunday at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center.

In the "A" Doubles draw, junior Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and sophomore Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) suffered a pair of losses. In the first round, they fell to Mercyhurst's Dean and Murphy, 6-0. They fell in a consolation match to Wagner's Madail Perez and Vera, 6-3.

Graduate student Feriel Mahbouli (Tunisia) and sophomore Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) won the "B" Doubles bracket. After receiving a bye in the first round, they registered a 6-1 win over FDU's Lim and Jenkins in the semifinals. They recorded another 6-1 victory in the final against Mercyhurst's Regova and Bertolez.

Barona and junior Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) finished in third place in the "B" Doubles draw. They were 6-2 winners in the first round over Binghamton's Jaros and Vyas. In the semifinals, they were defeated, 6-4, by Regova and Bertolez. The duo responded with a 6-3 win in the third-place match over Lim and Jenkins.

In the four-team "C" Doubles draw, which was contested in a round-robin format, junior Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and freshman Adelie Wilson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) went 2-1. They won their first match, 6-1, over Mercyhurst's Nedelko and Gray. They won again, 7-5, against Binghamton's Gonzalez and Pedraza Palacios. They dropped their final match, 6-1, to the Saint Francis duo of Tuffs and Cunningham.

In the "A" Singles bracket, Mahbouli went 1-1. She opened with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Wagner's Liepa Sataite. She followed with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to FDU's Kim.

Simeonova took a pair of losses in the "B" Singles draw. In the first round, she fell to Kelly Dowouna of Saint Francis, 6-0, 6-2. She then was edged by Roisin Murphy of Mercyhurst, 7-5, 6-3

Fernando finished in third place in the "C" Singles bracket after going 2-1. She registered a 6-1, 6-7(6), 10-5 win in the first round over Maria Pereira of Binghamton. In the semifinals, she was upended by Ksenia Reznitskaya, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8. She responded with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sara Jankovic of Saint Francis.

Casares was also part of the "C" bracket and went 1-2. She opened with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) loss to Jankovic. She followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Bertolez. She suffered a 6-4 4-6 10-5 loss to Paula Ysabelle Uy of Wagner.

Alvarez and Raiss each went 1-1 in the "D" Singles draw before being paired against each other in the fifth-place match with Alvarez winning by default. In the first round, Alvarez was edged by Wagner's Dariana Vera, 7-5, 7-5. She bounced back with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Binghamton's Nitya Vyas in the consolation semifinals.

Raiss fell in the first round to Kally Kadzinski from Saint Francis, 6-2, 6-3. She advanced to face Alvarez with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Binghamton's Samantha Jaros.

Barona won all three of her matches in the "E" Singles draw. She cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mercyhurst's Sierra Rodgers in the first round. She then registered a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win over Morgan Tuffs from Saint Francis in the semifinals. She closed out the weekend with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over FDU's Anias Jenkins to win the bracket.

Wilson split a pair of matches in the "F" Singles bracket. After a bye in the first round, she dropped a 7-6(7-3), 6-7(4-7), 10-8 decision to Gretta Rhodes in the semifinals. She claimed third place with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Julia Pedraza Palacios.

The Dolphins are back in action at the Colgate University Invite on Saturday at the J.W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts.
