WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATED BY LIU

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's soccer team were defeated in its matchup against the LIU Sharks on Sunday.

The Dolphins made two changes to the lineup against Howard on Thursday, as redshirt freshman defender Logan Cookinham (Poland, N.Y./Poland) and senior forward Brook Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) both made their return to the starting XI.

The 'Phins started the game strong as sophomore midfielder Kyla Sustad (Willet, N.Y./Cincinnatus/Merrimack) registered the first shot of the game for either side. Sophomore midfielder Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) added a second shot for Le Moyne in the 8th minute of play, but could not find the back of the net.

LIU scored its first goal of the game in the 10th minute off a corner kick taken by freshman defender Morgan Sherrill. The ball found its way to the feet of senior Gina Proviano, who hit it first time with her left foot into the top right corner of the goal to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

Le Moyne responded quickly, as Cookinham and senior midfielder Gabriella Sylstra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Old Dominion) recorded three shots over the next four minutes of action, still looking for their opening goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) added two saves to her tally in the 16th minute and 22nd minute of the 1st half to keep the Dolphins in the game.

Le Moyne made its first substitution in the 28th minute as freshman defender Mallory Pietrzak (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) came into the game looking to provide a spark for the 'Phins. Junior forward Courtney Felton (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield/Roberts Wesleyan) and senior defender Katelyn Courcy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) also joined Pietrzak just a few minutes later.

McPheron would make another save before the half ended from a shot by LIU's Grace Hennig, as the two team's entered halftime with Le Moyne trailing 1-0.

Le Moyne entered the 2nd half looking for its first goal, as Sylstra and senior midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) added two shots to the 'Phins tally.

In the 57th minute, the Dolphins earned another corner taken by Sustad, playing it short to Sylstra who played a ball into the box that met the head of Casey, placing the ball into the back of the LIU goal to even the score at 1-1.

The two teams continued to battle throughout the 2nd half, as neither could gain an edge on the other. Frustrations started to boil over as LIU's Grace Hennig earned the first yellow card of the match in the 59th minute. Junior defender Jasmina Barhoumi also received a yellow card fifteen minutes later for a foul right outside the 18-yard box of LIU.

LIU added its second goal of the game in the 80th minute from a long range strike off the left foot of Proviano into the top right corner of the Dolphin net, off an assist from sophomore forward Stephanie Schubert. Over the next ten minutes of play, the Dolphins were unable to find another equalizer as the game ended 2-1 in favor of the Sharks.

Le Moyne travels to familiar opponent Stonehill College on Thursday to continue their conference slate. Action is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 P.M in North Easton, Mass.
