CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE RECORDS 93-70 WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Devin Haid tallied 20 points to lead Central Connecticut State University to a 93-70 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast Conference action on Friday night at Ted Grant Court.

Sophomore guard AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) led the Dolphins with 18 points, 10 of which came in the second half, to go with seven assists, three rebounds and two steals. Graduate student guard Robby Carmody (Mars, Pa./Mars Area/Notre Dame/Mercer) drained five three-pointers to finish with 15 points, including 12 in the first half. Senior forward Ocypher Owens (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep/Indian River State) was the third Dolphin in double figures with 10 points.

Haid recorded 13 of his game-high point total in the first half, while adding four rebounds. Jordan Jones, the preseason favorite for conference player of the year, netted 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists. Abdul Momoh registered a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds and added three assists. Jayden Brown turned in 12 points (10 in the second half), five rebounds and four assists. Jaelen McGlone posted 10 points off the bench.

After the Blue Devils scored the first five points of the game, the Dolphins tallied eight of the next 10 for their only lead of the night. Dancler and Owens made three-pointers and then Owens converted a lay-up for the 8-7 lead.

Following ties at 11 and 13, the Blue Devils ran off 10 straight points. Brown had a jumper, Joe Ostrowsky and Davonte Sweatman made three-pointers and then McGlone had a tip-in with 11:47 to go.

After a Carmody three-pointer out of the under-12 media timeout, Central Connecticut State got back-to-back baskets in the paint from Momoh and another from McGlone for a 29-16 lead.

Following another Momoh lay-up with 8:06 left for a 31-18 CCSU lead, the Dolphins scored seven straight points to get within six with 6:16 remaining. Carmody hit another three-pointer out of a media timeout, freshman guard Jakob Blakley (Elgin, Ill./Walter Payton Preparatory) made a reverse lay-up and then redshirt sophomore forward Nate Fouts (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles/Kimball Union Academy) converted a lay-up.

After the teams split the next 10 points, CCSU extended its lead back to 13 with seven straight points. Haid had a tip-in, Darin Smith, Jr. buried a three-pointer and then Haid made two free throws.

Haid put the Blue Devils up 45-33 at halftime with a lay-up with seven seconds remaining.

Central Connecticut State used a 12-2 run over the opening three and one-half minutes of the second half to take its first lead of 20 points. Jones hit a three-pointer, Momoh made a lay-up, Brown converted two foul shots and then Haid had a three-pointer and a lay-up.

Following a 9-4 spurt by the Dolphins to trim their deficit to 18 with just over 14 minutes left, the Blue Devils pushed their lead to a game-high 29 with 14 of the next 16 points, including nine straight points. Brown scored the first four points from the foul line, McGlone had a conventional three-point play and then Brown had a fast-break dunk. Following a Fouts three-pointer, Brown made a lay-up and Ostrowsky drilled a three-pointer with 10:05 remaining.

After seven points from each team over the next five minutes, Le Moyne used a 13-7 run to cut into its deficit. Five Dolphins scored in the span, led by three-pointers from fifth-year guard Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) and redshirt freshman guard Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes).

Smith, Jr. and Dancler traded three-pointers to close out the game's scoring.

Le Moyne (7-14, 2-4 NEC), which suffered its most lopsided home NEC loss, is back in action on Thursday at FDU at 7:00 p.m.
