WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO LIU

Brookville, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer team were defeated in their NEC matchup at LIU Sunday evening.

Le Moyne entered today's matchup following a 1-0 defeat against Howard University on Thursday. LIU defeated the University of New Haven 2-1 in their previous contest on Thursday.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) earned the first save of the game in the 5th minute of action after senior midfielder Betty Hall took a shot headed towards the bottom right corner of the goal. The Dolphins responded in the 14th minute after fifth year midfielder Gabriella Sylstra (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls/Old Dominion/Richard Bland) took a shot down the center of the goal, as redshirt junior goalkeeper Keely Thomas made her first save of the game.
 
The 'Phins recorded their second shot of the game just three minutes later, taken by senior midfielder Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminster, Mass./St. Bernard's), however her attempt was off target. Graduate student midfielder Danielle Casey (Clifton {Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) made her first appearance of the game in the 24th minute. Junior midfielder Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) recorded her first shot of the game in the 28th minute, untroubling Keely as it resulted in a goal kick.
 
The Sharks scored the opening goal of the game in the 30th minute, scored by freshman midfielder Brooklyn Menard and assisted by Hall. Freshman midfielder Grace Gironda (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) entered the game following the resumption of play. Sophomore forward Nicole Calle (Providence, R.I./Cumberland) made her first appearance of the game in the 41st minute.
 
McPheron added two more saves to her tally just before halftime, the first coming in the 41st minute off a shot by junior defender Kaleigh West headed towards the bottom right corner. In the 43rd minute, West registered another attempt on goal, this time down the middle resulting in a comfortable save for McPheron as the two sides entered halftime with the Sharks holding a 1-0 advantage.
 
The Sharks recorded the first shot attempt on target of the 2nd half in the 54th minute after West took a shot down the center of the goal, as McPheron made her fourth save of the game. She would make two more back-to-back saves in the 61st minute after a shot taken by freshman midfielder Flavie Boulanger, and the rebound shot taken by West.
 
Just over a minute later, the Sharks added their second goal of the game scored by Hall and assisted by West. Sophomore forward Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and freshman defender Bo Price both were handed yellow cards in the 67th minute of play. Freshman forward Kaitlyn Gilhooly (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) made her first appearance of the game in the 68th minute.
 
Freshman defender/midfielder Finley Brown (South Portland, Maine/Cheverus) was brought back into the game in the 81st minute, and immediately was involved in the action as she had her shot attempt saved by Keely as the 'Phins continued to create chances.
 
The game came to a close as the Sharks won 2-0 over the 'Phins to keep the points in Brookville.

The Dolphins are back in action Thursday against Wagner College. Action is scheduled to kickoff at 3:00 P.M. at Ted Grant Field.
