MEN’S SOCCER DOWNS MERCYHURST, 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Redshirt sophomore defender Vito Kreuzpaintner (Munich, Bavaria, Germany/FOS Nord/UNC Wilmington) scored midway through the second half to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Mercyhurst University in NEC action on Thursday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins opened the game with the offensive advantage with four shots in the initial 13 and one-half minutes, including the first shot on goal of the game in the seventh minute, but were unable to get on the scoreboard.

Mercyhurst answered with the final three shots of the half, including two that had to be turned away by junior goalkeeper Wyatt Dupell (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse).

Le Moyne recorded four of the first five shots of the second half over the opening 17 minutes before finding the back of the net.

After Kreuzpaintner caused a turnover by the Lakers, redshirt sophomore forward Felix Ludemann (Wrestedt, Germany/Herzog-Ernst-Gymnasium Uelzen) one-touched the loose ball up the middle of the field in front of Kreuzpaintner, who ran onto the ball, side-stepped a defender and fired a shot into the middle of the net at the 69:51 mark for his first goal of the season and the fourth of his career.

Mercyhurst had the final five shots of the game, but only one was on target and it was corralled by Dupell.

Dupell finished the contest with three saves for his second shutout of the season and the ninth of his career. Gonzalo Onrubia made one save between the pipes for the Lakers.

Le Moyne (3-8, 2-2), which evened the all-time series with the Lakers at 3-3-1, is back in action next Thursday at NEC-newcomer University of New Haven at 7:00 p.m.
