DUPELL’S CAREER DAY LEADS MEN’S SOCCER TO SCORELESS DRAW WITH STONEHILL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior goalkeeper Wyatt Dupell (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) registered a career-high 11 saves as the Le Moyne College men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Stonehill College in NEC action on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

Le Moyne was the first team to put a shot on goal, but redshirt sophomore forward Felix Ludemann (Wrestedt, Germany/Herzog-Ernst-Gymnasium Uelzen) had his shot saved by Kyle Tencza, who made his first appearance of the season between the pipes and is the fourth Skyhawk to start in goal.

The Skyhawks tallied the final 10 shots of the opening half, four of which Dupell was forced to turn aside.

Stonehill extended its streak to 12 consecutive shots with the first two of the second half, the first of which Dupell collected.

In the 53rd minute, Owen Burke sent an 18-yard shot toward the lower left corner, but Dupell was able to stretch out and knock the ball away. Burke rifled another low shot in the 71st minute, this time towards the far, right corner, but Dupell was able to drop down and collect the ball.

Le Moyne had its first shot on goal of the second half on the counterattack of Dupell's save, but Tencza was able to stick his right foot out and knock away an 18-yard blast from graduate student forward Francesco Pagano (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Syracuse / Coastal Carolina). Just over 30 seconds later, Tencza was able to corral a shot by senior forward Cameron Stuart (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley).

In the 77th minute, Nate Monteiro was sent in one-on-one with Dupell, who won the battle by swatting the shot from one yard apart away. Just 26 seconds later, Alex Kuzmich blasted a 30-yard shot through traffic and Dupell dropped to a knee to collect the ball.

Following another Dupell save in the 79th minute and a foul by the Skyhawks just outside of their penalty box, sophomore midfielder Rhys Allport (Wirral, England/Reaseheath) had leaping header from the top of the goal box that he bounced towards the left side of the goal, but Tencza was able to punch it out of bounds.

On the counterattack, James Forrest-Hay was able to put a shot on target from 10 yards out, but Dupell knocked it down and a defender cleared the ball out of bounds with 10:16 left.

Neither team was able to put a shot on goal over the final 10 minutes.

Dupell earned his third shutout of the season and the 10th of his career. Tencza finished the contest with four saves.

Le Moyne (3-8-2, 2-2-2 NEC), which remains in a tie with Stonehill for fifth in the NEC standings and a point behind fourth-place Howard with three games to go, visits second-place FDU on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
