Lucas Clay (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) of the men's swimming and diving team has been selected as the Le Moyne Athlete of the Week, presented by CADimensions Inc.
Clay earns the recognition after setting three school records and finishing in the top-11 nine times at the Magnus Cup hosted by Cleveland State University Thursday through Saturday. He earned 69 individual points and collected 143 points in relay events.
He broke his own program records in the 200-yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:00.81 and the 100-yard breaststroke with a final time of 54.38 seconds. He finished in fourth place in both events. He also swam the second leg for the ninth-place 400-yard medley relay team, which broke the program record with a time of 3:20.01.
Clay's best finish came in the 50-yard breaststroke, where he placed third with a mark of 24.94 seconds. He tallied an 11th-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly in 22.49 seconds.
Clay's first relay points came in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the Dolphins placed 11th in 1:23.82, the fourth-best time in the program's history. His best relay finish came in the 800-yard freestyle relay, where the Le Moyne quartet placed seventh in 6:50.47, the second-best mark in the program's history. The 200-yard medley relay team placed 10th in 1:31.20, the second-best time in the program's history. His final points came in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the Dolphins placed 10th in 3:05.81, the third-best time in the program's history.
Clay is back in action in the 100-meter breaststroke at the USA Swimming Toyota U.S. Open Championships on Friday, December 5 in Austin, Texas.
