Austin, Texas – Tramon Mark led six Longhorns in double-digits as the University of Texas recorded a 95-53 win over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team on Tuesday night at the Moody Center.
Redshirt junior guard
Trent Mosquera (Boston, Mass./Belmont Hill School) led the Dolphins with 14 points (nine in the second half), eight rebounds and four steals. Sophomore guard
Jakai Sanders (Brooklyn, N.Y. Eagle Academy Saint Peter's
) tallied 12 points off the bench, including seven after halftime. Redshirt sophomore guard
Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) posted 10 points, including eight in the first half.
Mark finished the night with a game-high 18 points, 12 of which came in the second half, while adding three rebounds and three assists. Matas Vokietaitis registered a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Dailyn Swain turned in 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Jordan Pope and Simeon Wilcher each had 11 points, while Camden Heide posted 10.
After the teams traded points over their first three possessions, the Longhorns scored seven points in the row to take an eight-point advantage, 13-5.
The Dolphins pulled within four on a pair occasions and were within five for the final time with 11:19 remaining.
Texas countered with 18 of the next 21 points to take its first 20-point lead of the game, 38-18, with 6:43 remaining. Wilcher bookended the streak with three-pointers, while Heide had five points in the span.
The Dolphins closed out the half with 12 of the final 15 points to close within 41-30 at the intermission. Mosquera scored the first five points and then Garang had a pair of baskets around three points from graduate student forward
Shilo Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Vincennes/Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).
Mark started the second half with back-to-back three-pointers as Texas scored 12 of the first 14 points of the stanza.
After Mosquera had a three-point play to get the Dolphins within 18 for the final time with 14:32 left, the Longhorns rattled off 21 of the next 27 points to blow the game open. Five players scored in the span, led by six points from Mack and five from Pope, including a streak-capping three-pointer with 8:10 left.
Following back-and-forth action over the next three minutes, Texas scored 14 of the last 20 points to deliver the final score. Vokietaitis scored the first four points, while Swain also had four points in the span.
Le Moyne (5-6), which took on an SEC opponent for the first time in the program's history, is back in action on Saturday at St. Bonaventure University at 1:00 p.m.
