WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS STONEHILL, 4-3

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team won four singles matches to claim a 4-3 victory over the Stonehill College Skyhawks in Northeast Conference action Monday morning at the Elevate Fitness tennis courts.

The Dolphins have now won three matches in a row, and improve to 3-1 against NEC competition.

The Skyhawks entered Monday's match with a 2-0 conference record, fresh off a 6-1 win at Binghamton on Sunday, and claimed the first points of the day by winning two of the three doubles matches against the Dolphins.

Lilah Shallcross and Arya Chabria bested senior Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and freshman Charlotte Klein (Mellenthin, Germany/Education World Wide (Fla.)) in the second position.

Le Moyne's duo of sophomore Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst) and graduate Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) suffered their first loss in dual match doubles this season, falling to Julie Holte and Anneliese Beltran in the first position by a score of 7-5, which clinched the point for Stonehill.

Junior Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) prevailed against Stonehill's Madison Warren and Alice Brito do Rio by a score of 7-6 (7-4) in the No. 3 doubles match.

Le Moyne junior Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) tied the score at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Beltran in the No. 4 singles match, while Holte claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win over Klein in the first position.

Mahbouli recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win over Warren in the second position to capture the Dolphins' second point.

In a tightly contested No. 3 singles match, Shallcross registered a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win over Fernando.

Le Moyne fought back to earn the conference victory with wins in the fifth and sixth position.

Alvarez defeated Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles match, while Barona rallied to register a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Alice Brito do Rio in the fifth position.

Le Moyne (4-2, 3-1 NEC) will return to action Saturday against Siena College at Elevate Fitness in Liverpool.
