SAINT FRANCIS REGISTERS 81-76 OVERTIME WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Chris Moncrief scored a career-high 25 points to lead Saint Francis University to an 81-76 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in overtime on Thursday night in Northeast Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Sophomore guard AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) led the Dolphins in the setback with 30 points, including 14 in the first half, while adding four rebounds and four assists. Redshirt freshman guard Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) continued his breakout play with 20 points, 10 of which came in the first half, to go with two rebounds and a steal. The game marked the first for the Dolphins with a 30-point scorer and a 20-point scorer since a 107-99 setback against Adelphi University on February 11, 2020 when Ryan Roland '20 had 30 points and Tom Brown '20 had 26.

Moncrief recorded 16 of his 25 points in the first half, while adding six rebounds. Riley Parker added 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Daemar Kelly posted 14 points, including the go-ahead free throws, while Juan Cranford, Jr. tallied 12 points and four rebounds.

After the teams were tied five times in the first four minutes of the game, Garang hit a three-pointer and made a fast-beak lay-up to put the Dolphins up five.

The Dolphins pushed their lead to seven for the first time at 24-17 with 9:53 left on a pair of free throws from graduate student guard Will Amica (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/UAlbany).

The Red Flash answered back with 10 straight points to take the lead back, 27-24, with 7:24 left. Robby Rosenberger led the charge with two lay-ups.

After the teams traded baskets over the next five minutes, Le Moyne got two free throws from Dancler and a fast-break dunk by Garang to give the Dolphins a 38-36 lead. Each team scored once in the last minute and went into the intermission tied at 38.

After the Red Flash scored the first five points of the second half and Le Moyne countered with the next four, Saint Francis scored 10 in a row to take its largest lead of the game. Valentino Pinedo made a lay-up, Moncrief hit a three-pointer, Kelly made a jumper and then Cranford, Jr. buried a three-pointer for a 53-42 lead with 15:25 left.

Following a jumper by Parker with 13:52 left for a 55-45 lead, the Dolphins ran off nine straight points to get within one with 9:51 left. Garang made a jumper two minutes later and a lay-up, senior forward Ocypher Owens (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep/Indian River State) had a dunk off a steal and then Dancler drained a three-pointer to force a Saint Francis timeout.

Parker and Moncrief drilled three-pointers out of the timeout as Saint Francis regained its seven-point lead.

Le Moyne responded with 12 of the next 14 points to take a three-point lead with 2:54 remaining. Garang started the charge with a three-pointer, Amica made two foul shots and redshirt junior forward Dwayne Koroma () made a lay-up to tie the score at 61. After Parker hit a jumper to put Saint Francis back in front, Garang countered with a three-pointer for a 64-63 lead with 4:07 to go. Following a media timeout with 3:11 left, Dancler made a lay-up with 2:54 to go for a 66-63 lead.

Le Moyne was held scoreless the remainder of regulation as Saint Francis capped a 64-second possession with one free throw with 53 seconds left and then Kelly made two with 15.8 seconds remaining to tie the score at 66.

Saint Francis took advantage of having two fouls to give to run six seconds off the clock before Dancler was able to get off a three-point attempt, but it was off the rim.

The Dolphins scored the first five points of overtime, including a three-pointer from Dancler to open the scoring.

The Red Flash countered with the next seven as Pinedo made a lay-up, Kelly connected on two free throws and then Parker drained a three-pointer for a 73-71 lead.

Dancler answered back 26 seconds later to tie the score at 73 with 1:14 left.

Following an empty possession by both teams, including a steal by Kelly, he drew a foul with 38 seconds left and made both free throws for a 75-73 lead.

After the Dolphins used their final timeout with 34.3 seconds left, they committed a turnover with 18 seconds left. Cranford, Jr. picked off a pass, drew a foul and then sank two free throws.
