LAFAYETTE RECORDS VICTORY OVER MEN’S LACROSSE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Nicholas Blalock tallied five points to lead Lafayette College to a 15-4 win over the Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team on Saturday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.

The Leopards opened the game with the first three goals in a span of two and one-half minutes in the first quarter. Following almost seven minutes of scoreless action to start the game, Benjamin DiBattista scored his second goal of the season with 8:12 left off a pass from Joseph Duggan in an extra-man opportunity. Aiden Kopen netted his third goal of the season just 33 seconds later. Blalock scored his first goal of the game and seventh of the season with 5:34 left.

Le Moyne got on the scoreboard 50 seconds later as graduate student attacker Zachary Delaney (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga/Hobart) tallied his first goal as a Dolphin off a pass from junior midfielder Zack Crosby (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn).

The teams split the two goals in the second quarter. Clifford Chapman pushed Lafayette's lead back to three with 11:59 left with an extra-man tally, but Crosby got the Dolphins within 4-2 with his first goal of the season with just five seconds remaining.

After each team scored in the opening two and one-half minutes of the third quarter, the Leopards scored seven straight goals to close out the period. Mason Hill got the scoring started at the 13:29 mark off a dish from Blalock. Freshman midfielder Emmet McDermott (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) answered for the Dolphins 65 seconds later off a feed from graduate student attackman Wyatt Auyer (Memphis, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/UIndy).

Joshua Heaney started the run at the 9:28 mark with his second goal of the season. Jack Irish followed with 7:49 remaining with his second tally of the campaign. Just over two minutes later, Heaney found the back of the net again. Off the ensuing faceoff, Andrew Matarese scooped up the loose ball before tally his first goal of the season 11 seconds later. Blalock made it 10-3 29 seconds later and then scored again with 3:10 to go. Just 10 seconds later, Jack Massotto scored his first goal of the campaign off a dish from Blalock for the final goal of the quarter.

Lafayette extended its run to 10 consecutive goals with the first three of the fourth quarter. Heaney netted his third goal of the half with 11:26 remaining in the game. Cade Kilbride picked up his second goal of the season with 6:46 to play. Nick Muller scored his third goal of the year 15 seconds later.

The Dolphins closed out the game's scoring with 5:53 left as Auyer scored his first goal as a Dolphin after taking a pass from McDermott.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Carter Ruhm (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal/Bridgton Academy/Robert Morris) turned away nine shots (against 13 goals) over 48:34 of action in the loss. Joe Doherty also made nine saves (against four goals) in 54:07 to earn the win.

Le Moyne (1-1) is back in action next Saturday against St. Bonaventure University at 2:00 p.m.
