Annapolis, Md. – William Goers recorded three points, including the eventual game-winner, to lead Navy to an 8-5 win over the Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team on Tuesday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Following almost eight minutes of scoreless action to start the game, junior attackman
Owen Wilson (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) scored his eighth goal of the season at the 7:05 mark from in front of the crease off a pass from junior midfielder
Alec Constable (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield).
The Midshipmen evened the score at one apiece with just over eight seconds left as Jack Ponzio scored his 12th goal of the year after taking a feed from Goers.
The teams split the six goals in the second quarter. Redshirt sophomore attackman
Thomas Berry (Tully, N.Y./Tully) put the Dolphins back in front at the 11:59 mark off a dish from graduate student midfielder
Ethan Loun (West Linn, Ore./West Linn). Navy took advantage of a Le Moyne penalty to tie the score at two with 9:12 left as Henry Tolker tallied his seventh goal of the campaign after taking a pass from Alec Gregorek. Just over minute later, graduate student attackman
Zachary Delaney (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga/Hobart) from the edge of the crease off a feed from freshman midfielder
Emmet McDermott (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville). The Midshipmen answered back only 30 seconds later as Ponzio recorded an unassisted marker. Mac Haley gave Navy its first lead of the game with 2:45 left in the quarter off a feed from Goers. Berry tied the score for the fourth and final time with 1:07 remaining with his ninth goal of the year after taking a pass from senior midfielder
Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton).
As was the case in the first quarter, the teams went almost eight minutes in the third quarter without a goal. This time though, Navy scored the first goal with 7:02 left a Carter Ash finished off a dish from Evan Conway.
The Midshipmen extended their lead to three goals with the first two of the fourth quarter. Goers made it a two-goal game for the first time at the 12:14 mark with his 11th tally of the season. Ryan Landolphi followed 78 seconds later with his first goal of the season after collecting a feed from Haley.
Out of a timeout, Loun pulled the Dolphins back within two with 1:38 remaining in the game with his seventh tally of the season after taking a feed from Delaney.
Following a Navy timeout, Haley evaded a double-team and scored into an open net with 56 seconds left to close out the game's scoring.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Lucas Winger (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) registered 17 saves in the setback, nine of which came in the third quarter. Dan Daly made three of his four saves in the second quarter.
Le Moyne (4-3), which played a service academy for the first time in the program's history, is back in action on Saturday against Cleveland State University at 12:00 p.m. for its first home NEC contest.
