Binghamton, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Binghamton University in its final Northeast Conference match of the season on Friday evening at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the match by winning the point in the doubles competition. James McPherson and Kyle Weekes were victorious at the second position, 6-3, over freshmen
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi). Filipe Costa and Andrew Fang clinched the point with a 6-4 win over freshman
Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) and graduate student
Bernardo Teixeira (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundária Fontes Pereira de Mel/University of Porto/Delaware) at the third spot. Senior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and freshman
Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) prevented the sweep with a win at the top spot over William Morais Binnie and Ronin Lotlikar, 7-6 (7-5).
Binghamton captured the victory by winning four of the six matches in the singles competition. Costa gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the third spot over Maravillas. Lotlikar followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the second position over Hoyland for a 3-0 lead. Hatton kept the Dolphins alive with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Morais Binnie for his 12th straight win. Zubin Omar clinched the match for the Bearcats with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Bortolaso at the fifth position. Matthew collected Le Moyne's second point by rallying to defeat McPherson at the sixth spot, 5-7, 6-0, 10-8. Andre Ajed closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the fourth position over freshman
